To be clear, not the actual race, just on my own or with a similar skilled group with some good old fashion attacks and race re-enactments

Paris Roubaix would by my first choice. Not the RACE...just solo or with a few friends. I'd ride my CX with pavement 700x28s or maybe even 32s. I would definitely take it at a relaxed pace to enjoy the scenery...a couple of stops for beer and goat cheese on crackers before that long stretch of cobbles.

You know they have an open event the day before P-R right? I heard Sean Kelly talk about it this year. He said because there were no spectators he didn't ride the crown. He avoided most of the cobbles and just rode alongside in the dirt. Ever the racer...

Definitely more than one long stretch of cobbles on the route, so you might be riding a little heavy.

Three Peaks is the top of my bucket list ride. Paris-Roubaix course would be fun with tons of people. The all-moutain title race in Sierraville, CA is high on my list. Maybe Roc d' Azure.

I think RAGBRAI might be fun, but not a gotta-do-it kind of thing for me.

I'm going to do RvV Cyclo and Paris-Roubaix challenge again this year. Probably the last time for both. If anyone reading this loves these races then I highly recommend that you figure out a way to do the sportiv's. They are that good.

Now that you mention it, I do remember hearing about the public P-R. My problem would be the weather at that time of year. I'd probably do the ride in June then hang around and watch a little of the tour. Get the old antlers dusted off and head for a category HC finish.
I haven't heard about the Sierraville ride. I'm heading to the Gold Country next week and wouldn't mind a good ride (not race). Is there a link to this route?

Going to do it, just need to get the kids Easter break to line up. RVV/PR is the same week in 2012 and likely 2013. As much as I think Belgium in spring is great they prefer Hawaii.

For now it looks like 2014 is the earliest, but perhaps 2013 if their calender changes.

P-R and RvV cyclo/sportives are both great to do, and I'd happily do them again.

Liege has a sportive the day before the main event to, so that one's on my list.
My 'biggy' is to ride the dolomites and follow the Giro. Stelvio, Zoncolan, et al...

alas, no longer living in europe means that these will be quite a project to complete now.

I just did Manali{alt. 1,950 m} to rohtang pass {3,978 m} ride... ...which was pure hell going up but the ride down was amazing....one down, plenty more to do hehe.

I actually traveled on this by car before they built the alternate road, and before they paved the upper section. It was also very wet when I was there. Hair raising to say the least.

I'm hopefully doing the Marmotte this year. I'm also going to the Ardennes races next year but not to ride just to drink beer and watch the races.

Ronde next year, the rest of the monuments likely at some point. Probably not Sanremo though.

Other than that, various Italian + French mountains. And some ridiculously long climb like Teide or Haleakala.

Alpe D'Huez plus the others in its vicinity - Telegraphe, Galibier, Glandon, Izoard

Tourmalet
Stelvio
Marmotte as an event is good
Etape du Tour if it fits in with your travels, otherwise not really worth the hassle.
There's loads to choose from in the alpes or pyrenees plus there's also the Ardennes to consider plus maybe even checking out Tenerife or Majorca if you want to see where the Pros go to train.

I've done a week in Majorca for the last two years and absolutely loved it. Last year I was there when the tour of Majorca was on and got to watch the race go through a few times, got a wave from Erik Zabel, happy days.

I really enjoyed the mountains over there, which is why I'm so excited about doing the Marmotte next year. I've never really climbed a real mountain, you know, like the HC beasts they ride in the GT's. I'm not really to bothered about doing the Ardennes sportives as they are similar to the climbs we have where I live.
