BTW, BMC should really sign Cancellara for next year. Besides helping Evans on the Pavé , he is probably the reason why Evans is the world champion. It was Cancellara who wore down the field in Mendrisio.

The reason Cadel won the WC was because he attacked at the right time and no-one wanted to help anyone else chase him down. Cadel put himself in the lead group when Gerrans couldn't hang on, Canc wasnt waiting for him.

people forget that cadel finished 23 secs behind contador in 2007.

cadel is more settled this year and has had a strong build up to the tour. it's his race to lose.

What BS, he has never won it, and it will be his to lose only if he gets up by 5 minutes after the Pyrenees; until that happens he will working out how he can win it.

Evans also had to make a big effort to get back onto the FC group as he hung back to let gerro go with the front group but when the **** hit the fan, gerro was not up to it and cadel had to clean up for him and did he clean up!:)

I love talking about Mendrisio!

"People" don't forget anything, rather people remember that Contador has grown a lot stronger since 2007. Cadel might have beaten 2007 Contador, no way he beats 2009 Contador, and 2010 Contador is looking pretty strong to. In case you forgot Contador took time out of Evans on the pancake flat Prologue, and TTs is supposed to be Evans forte, while Contador is the stronger climber.

In 2007, AC wasn't as good in the ITT either. I haven't checked, but I suspect that Evans made up some time on AC in the last ITT. I doubt he can do that this year. However, this year's ITT is extremely flat.

I think Evans is a changed rider since he won the World Championship. He might just surprise us in the mountains.

Yeh... destroying yourself in the hardest race of the year is a great way to prepare for the TdF.

The final tt in 2007 has a very strong tail wind which helped AC big time in 2007. All of the tt's AC has gone well in have climbs or a technical. Bordeaux has neither of those factors.

Ferminal, Evans has always gone into the tdf with very strong form early so the lapse of training for cadel post giro may help him come into form in the final week.

Honestly I'd expect him to finish minutes down on Contador even in top shape.

Do you really think he won't have any ill effects from the Giro? He went really hard until the very end. That being said, he could pick up yellow on Saturday--which frankly would be to Saxo Bank (and Andy's) advantage.

ahh, welcome back to the cycling timmy!

Thanks, when you realize how physically demanding the giro was, and that Evans has little chance in contending the tour I shall welcome you back to reality :)

Cadel was marvelous today, but it seems in week 3 that his motor really slows down. And you got to think that with Frank being out, that Andy has lost his best ally in the mountains and will really hurt his chances now too.

Contador was really impressive today, it looks like if he keeps his form he will be near impossible to beat. But one has to wonder if Vinokorov hasn't got some self motivation to win for himself, maybe causing once again internal strife within the team that Contador will have to fight through.

Vino knows that he can't climb with the elite in this race. He coudn't do it prior to his suspension either so I would have to think that he is firmly based in reality here and knows that supporting Contador to the best of his ability is what is best in the long run.

Even if Evans can gain seconds or maybe even a minute or so on AC in the TT, that will not come close the minutes AC will gain on Evans in the mountains. So will many others. Give it up already.

Contador can easily take 1 min on Evans in the mountains. So Contador remains favorite.

Although Evans now has a good position for podium finish.

How can you say that at the end of stage 5. About cadel?

I think Evens has a reel good shot at third but has has to focus as hard *** he can on the wheel in front of him, practically wrap his lips around the hub, dont lose concentration on it for a single second otherwise they will ride away.

He shoudl pick Lances wheel to follow as then he will get second, if he follows Levistrong maybe third. But for evens second is first winner.

I need to bookmark this thread down and maybe ring it out once we are at the 25th of July. NOt saying he is going to win but he will do well. If evans was so bugged he would of not finished 16th yesterday in the sprint and would of not finished in the front group with fabo and thor.

ok ok.
but my point stands, we wont compete after that giro.
He will not make top 5.
Menchov and AS will certainly beat him, I'm sure.

See past your fanboyism, and give the giro the respect it deserves ;)

Looking at the past 12 months may be a better indicator than looking at Evans performance in the giro. He's had a pretty intense season and still managed to ride well in the giro. And he's had over 4 weeks to recover.

His form this year has been as good as it gets and his confidence would have to be up there.

If Evans is ever going to win le tour he can't be in a better position than he is now. Every other year he has had to make up time. This year the others have to.

If his team is up to it and he is smart using them there is every chance evans will finish in yellow.
