Correct and well said. This is why predictions he will struggle to Top 10 the Tour are premature whether he's 36 or 26. Typical fighting effort from Evans today, I think he'll be satisfied with his performance at this point in time.

It's the last Mountain stage. He ain't going to compromise his recovery for the Tour by going all out for 1 mountain. If it was midway through the Giro i might agree with you. Plus who wouldn't go all out to grab a GT podium in his position sitting 2nd on GC in a Grand Tour with 1 final mountain.

What is "and whatever", exactly? Evans is sitting comfortably in 3rd after the 19 stages that were actually contested. Those who wanted to knock him off the podium had plenty of chances.

Without the cancellations Betancur would've podiumed. Not Evans.

I know Evans had a bad TT, but you don't know that this is the case, apparently today he had a mechanical which didn't help him, although he may still have lost out to Uran.

He could easily top 10 the Tour with his Giro form throughout. Now, with a month to recover, no idea what will happen to him...

Cadel is one of the best riders out there with what he's got, he didn't show other years' form, but his smarts and knowledge have taken him to 3rd place. He's a true hero in my book.

Ofc, it's not. But coming in with poor form, doing the Giro can be great! I know it's a long shot, but he had limited options.

Maybe it's just me but doesn't it seem disingenuous and, even more so, disrespectful to his rivals that he so often falls back on excuses as to why he's done badly/lost time etc...?

Other riders seem to get on with it, maybe say they the weren't good enough or just keep things to themselves. Evans though always seems to want us to think it wasn't his fault... Makes me think he's a coward to be honest.

After the never ending excuse fest that was Wiggins' sorry attempt at the Giro, I cannot see how you can fault a rider who stuck it out to the end, rain or shine or snow.

Evans is better than I thought to have hung on and finished 3rd for Giro. He must be really relieved they cancelled Friday's stage.

Don't think this is Evans speaking his mind, rather this smells of modern result management trying to protect the "brand".

And so the fans will sit in front of the telly during TdF hoping for an even better result.

Personally think Evans did rather well to get on the podium. Chapeau.

By palmeres do you only mean GT results?

Yes GTs. Weighting the Tour higher for obvious reasons and counting his WT as well as it was raced on a course not suited to sprinters.

It's you. Evans really has shown during his career that he has cojones and does not flinch from rain, snow or adversity.

He just isn't the best rider of his generation (but he's up there obviously).
