A truly worthy winner.

A terrible advertisement for cycling.

Sorry

A stupid sentiment for a cycling forum.

Sorry.

........................................

Cadel Evans:

Athletic.

Courageous.

Arguably among the more thoughtful pro cyclists.

Rides his heart out.

Plays fair, win or lose.

Kind.

Successful.

Beautiful wife.

Etc.

I'd say that's about as good an advertisement for cycling as could be asked for.

Agree with the highlighted (if he wins - 57 secs is tight) -but don't agree with the blue.
Cadel has ridden smart, aggressively and with excellent consistency but in particular he had to ride on the limit all today to catch back after his mechanical - chapeau Cadel.

Evans??? The swashbuckling hero that gives cycling it's raison d'etre???

I stand by what I said. Worthy but hardly a cause for celebration.

Oh, and I have no doubt that he has enough - you can still get 2/1 on for the win - easy money.

Does anyone know where this Dermie guy is??(You know, the OP with that "Dog with glasses"-avatar.) Now Cadel is in pole position, he doesn't show up .:p

Yeah dude I am here. Just don't get the chance to be sitting in front of a/my computer & my phone all the time, unfortunately have to do some work at times, & last night my bloody Tivo did not record the race.
I started this thread off cos os all the negative stuff going on about Cadel.
He is not a normal everyday bloke & as a very individual sort of person I think he does not act like everyone expects him to aswell & why should he, he was & still is one of the greatest sportsmen on the planet. (yeah that's from a fan)
It appears to me that a lot of appreciation is being shown in this thread toward the latter parts so that is good. I am not totally biased to wards Cadel I appreciate AC's efforts, just wish there were no bad vibes around him of late. The Shreck's, Sanchez, Voekler et al are all heroes.
Cadel I hope its his year
Quote form the head Shreck, Johnny their dad may be a loose cannon?

Unfortunately, his father Johnny described the situation a little differently. "I don't think it's possible," he told reporters on the finish line. "Cadel Evans is one of the best time triallists in the world, and he already knows the time trial well from the Dauphine. But I still have hope, and I know that the last week of the Tour also means different parameters. Both Fränk and Andy are strong in the last week, and perhaps Cadel will have a bad day."

Evans finished sixth, at 1:20 adrift of then-stage winner Tony Martin (HTC-Highroad) on the exact same course of the race against the clock in the Dauphine one month ago.

Schleck, whose last race before the Tour was the Tour de Suisse, conceded that he had never ridden the Grenoble course and only knew it from television footage. "But I know a little bit what it's like from talking to the guys who did it in the Dauphine," he said. "Everybody tells me it's a course that suits me well, so I believe them... and I hope to show a great performance tomorrow."

Incidentally! for the life of me why wouldn't a TDF contender go for a spin around the TT course, what TF??? do they do with their planning for the race that can make their career ordinary or great?????

Well you said he is "a terrible advertisement for cycling".

The guy has been knocking on the door for many years now, is a former World Champion (and wore it with great honor and distinction) and is reasonably popular in Europe and a win would get a lot of coverage outside of Europe.

Ya, I think he wins it too - but not by much...... 2/1 eh? Hmmm.

Schleck sounds confident but he always does while Evans is approaching it like any other time trial which is sensible I think. Evans just seems like he's in the zone. I hope he does it and caps off a great career which won't continue for many more years. Both riders can hold their heads up. Great race by Voeckler but Rolland and Coppel seem to be the French riders for the future. Poor Frank. Everyone has forgotten him and he is ahead of Cadel on GC. He also has ridden a great race. If Andy loses he will have nighmares about the Gap stage where he lost over a minute on the descent. May the best man win.

Have you had a look at his website, & in particular Chiarra's corner where she does a little diary about the life of a pro cyclists wife. She spends a bit of time alone at home while he is away racing & she has recipe's up there aswell. I'm gonna give a few of them a go. I just spent a few weeks in Italy & would love to replicate some real Italian food, not just the pizza's & stuff one gets in the local city "Italian" restaurants.

that's because frank is only 4 seconds ahead of cadel. he'll lose that and more in the first km

Many kudos to Evans. I never believed. Only a few on this forum did. I can only hope they won't lord it over us too long, but I could hardly fault them if they did.

Andy Schleck is rolling from side to side and visibly struggling with the time trial gear, while Evans is seated and comfortable.

Unbelievable. Never thought it was possible. And definately not on this years TDF course, and not with this opposition. And not with this BMC team.

Fantastic performance. Against all odds.
