edit: i noticed Kirby keeps saying: "Jsesink". Why? He should go to fluency.nl and type Gesink and chose Arthur as voice. That's how you pronounce Gesink

Thanks D_T for the link
Gesink could have won this race had he waited for the last 2km to launch the attack--Gilbert simply outsmarted him on tactics, because the legs were gone with 100 mts to go.....
Maybe on Sunday he gets his win...

Gilbert completely blew in the final straight. Gesink looked ****ed that he couldn't get the win. He was certainly good enough to take the win today imo.

Should be someone to watch in the upcoming autumn classics.

Yeah, the autumn classics will be interesting with a beatable Gilbert. I think he's definitely beatable even after today.

I wish we knew what the Lombardy course looked like. But anyway... first things first.
Montreal on sunday.

It's pretty hard to stay ahead on that course. After the climb it's still 9km to go. The climb is harder than the 3 climbs in Quebec tho.

Another solo like last year will take another very strong Gesink or Gilbert. A small group sprint is a very real possibility.
Also like Quebec there is 2 extra laps compared to last year. So the race will be longer and more demanding.

What language are their speaking here?

Selection?

Belgium can send 8 circus bears on tricycles in support of Gilbert instead of cyclists...

Gilbert will still dominate

ah - you do make me laugh D_T :p

Oh wow, just watched the final few km's. Insane racing with a great great finish :D. Great fight between Gilbert & Gesink, but what can you do vs Big Phil :(.

Nice work by Gilbert, fully unexpected??? Take this form into the Worlds and you can still win. Definetly the strongest there. Good to see Clarke in the thick of things and also Ciolek.

I rescind the idea of Hesjedal winning Montreal.

just watched the last 25km.

epic man. These races are really great entertainment, last year too. In comparison to the prestigious 'ardennes' which are boring as hell.

love the autumn classics, eagerly await glb.

At least good to see that Gesink is back in business. I was pretty concerned after the Tour. But who knows, he might be able to finish 2nd a few more times to Gilbert in the coming weeks.

Gesink seems to like Francophone Canada. Maybe poutine is his rocket fuel.

yeah, it has been a hard yeah for him, Hopefully he can bounce back this autumn and finish on a high. He needs this. I need this :p

I absolutely love the Canadian races. They get it right, unlike California and Colorado which still need some work in race planning.

they're pretty epic.

Yeah but if I see how Gesink went on the steepest climb and Gilbert had a bit of a problem there. I can't see Gilbert beating Gesink there. Sorry.

can never write the guy off.

You know Gesink, always on form at the wrong time.

yeah, ahwell. Just good to see him going good again.

What an action packed exciting race this was. At least during the last laps, that is. Was initially rooting for Hesjedal as always, but since his customary absence from the final selection I cheered for Gesink then.

And what a ride by him. Granted, he did not win and I expected him to podium, but nevertheless I was truly impressed. If only Gesink had been on Gilbert's wheel when Phil went - in that case I think he might have had the goods to go one more time. Hopefully he does it on Sunday then.

Also being a tall lanky and goofy rider myself, I kinda love Gesink's riding style when giving it everything. Sure one can say it's ugly and even wastes energy being inefficient, but that's bloody giving it ALL. No room for anything but stomping the pedals there to keep it going and, of course, long limbs only exaggerate the wrestling with the bike vibe. Gotta respect the man who is willing (and able!) to dig that deep into the red oblivion. This stage will most likely become a frequent companion to the winter's turbo sessions with short stingers and VO2max stuff. :D

Montreal course is lumpier than this, right? I think the race will downright explode there.
