devolder is a pathetic rider in every way. it's laughable that he won this race because he sucks pretty much eveyrwhere else and also in this race for the past 2 years. that's what I meant. also he rode strong but won because of boonen behind him. looking back in 5 or 10 years people are going to wonder devolder who the f*** was that??

And suddenly your comment is wrong :p, true 2009 wasn't as good as the years before but he still won the Ronde. A lot of cyclists would've loved to have won that.

Good thing you put the Criterium Diksmuide on that. A lot of cyclists would wish they could win that one!

Sparticus....

...big-head-icus.

Great champions are great in defeat as well.

I am disappointed. I thought cycling was well on the way to having another - of the few - role models. That, Fabian, would be a good service for you to deliver to cycling.

Just copied from wiki :p
And imagine winning a race like Diksmuide  you'd have to be one of the greatest cyclists of all time !

I just think he is a Tool ,

“I am the only man in the world who can make an attack like the one in Flanders, or in Roubaix in 2010. Everybody knows that if I’m at 100 percent they have to fasten their seatbelts, like on an aeroplane

I dont care if its true or not but christ i think ego wise the arrogant **** is starting to think he is the new Lance.

Sounds to me like he's lost any remnants of humility and is quite full of himself. Yes he is at the peak of his athletic talents and displaying it fully, but this type of attitude is reminiscent of Cavendish and Ricco who both were brought back crashing to earth in different ways. Cav as a result became a bit more humble, brought to tears at a certain point as a result of the pressure. The thing that these two have/had in common was their youth. One would think an established, experienced talent like Cancellara would be a bit more modest. Using himself in the same sentence as Superman was really an example of his massive ego. I wonder will he still be this cocky when a young buck comes along to put him back among the mere mortals. When Boonen was handing him his head on a platter years ago he wasn't this boastful.

To me it's like in basketball in the parks and playgrounds, there are some that talk smack all the time, whether they're killing you or not, and then there are the good time fella's who only talk big when they are on a roll.

this has become a thread battle between pro-spartacus and anti-spartacus. ultra fanboy vs envies. go ahead, smash your heads together.

if u can't accept nuyens's win & canc's loss, then go cry to your mama.

if u can't accept canc's ultimate strength and want to take every single opportunity to bash the rider, go ahead, be a sissy.

THIS is a pro bike race. rivalries, mind games, media manipulation, etc are to be expected, because there's a lot at stake here, like football. if u can't handle the unpredictability of a bike race, then go watch dart tournament.

Aren't you going to extremes? Is there no grey area here? It can't be that cut and dried. The opinions expressed here are quite varied as far as I can see.

Clearly Cancellara doesn't think his translated words are acceptable............
..............unlike a few here that seem to think egotistical outbursts are perfectly OK if your action backs up your trash talk.

Best to blame an unspecified third party and move on.

easy solution is to give interviews in your first language.

No wonder his words get lost in translation.

He should only do interviews in Swiss-German

Maybe he is starting to believe the Spartacus rubbish ? He has always been like that. Another whiner from Saxo Bank. So now it depends on how you win, not winning. I admire his athletic ability and that's all.

I suspect the irony of the fact that Spartacus' rebellion failed completely and resulted in the death of himself and thousands of others slaves is lost on Cancellara.

Lost in translation? So what could he really have meant? I guess he really thought that the field wasn't a bunch of total wheelsuckers they were just partial wheelsuckers. And Nuyens is actually just as worthy of a champion as him.

Really, how much could have been lost?

Sometimes athletes show how stupid they really can be. These sorts of comments just stir up a hornet's nest and do more harm than good. If people were gunning for him before then they will be loaded for bear now. He basically just made it harder for himself and harder for his team to support him.

hmm

well to be honest, I still love him so am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

I do prefer my superheros to be a little more gracious in defeat .... but he actually doesnt get beaten all that often, so maybe is a bit out of practice :p

And it's all because they didn't have race radio. See? It's a safety issue. Without radios, thousands will die.

And then Tommy V and Kloden will win everything.

To start with a good loser is someone who doesnt trash the winner. But that doesnt mean he cant think that he himself was the strongest guy, and ofc he should be mad about not winning, but he only has himself to blame. A bad loser is someone making up a lot of excuses and trashing the winner.

Totally agree with your points Climber, Cancellara can see himself as the strongest in the race..but at the end of the day his tactics failed and he could at least aknowledge the fantastic victory for Nuyens in a respectful manner :)
