I dunno about the drama. Media will probably spin it in one year for the TdF if Armstrong goes up against Contador but is there really much more to say than what we have seen for three weeks?

AC said LA was one of his inspirations, LA says AC reminds him of himself, no wonder they can't get along in the same team. JB was very clear about which side he was on. They will part and go different directions.

Armstrong always had problems hiding some of the worst parts of his character but in the long run, slinging mud for months at Contador would be detrimental to his image and I think he realize that. The race showed pretty clearly that Contador was a superior rider. Armstrong will probably insist that his preparation this year was short and that he has hopes for next year.

Contador said in an interview:

Q: Have you decided what you will do in 2010?

AC: What’s sure is that I will have a lot of hassle to see what will be my future. For sure, it will be on a different team than Lance. We’ll see what we can do, whether it’s a new team or find a team that is 100 percent behind me to confront this race to win it again.

That pretty much says it...unless he can't get out of his contract with Bruyneel.

I am very much aware of that, but thank you for pointing it out.
As I said earlier, Caisse d'Epargne seems the most logical choice to me.

We'll see...

Do we have The Return of JackHammer? :D

Fun for all the family.

Typical of you to scoff, possibly because of the rather unusual user name, but the point he's actually making is spot on. Yet again proving that the hateboy community just loves to dish it out, but can't take it if anything comes back.;)

Oh you are so sad.

Come ON.

What is your problem?

I don't get it. It really is a "thing" on yank talkboards. They get insanely angry and hold grudges for years, have never ending slagging matches. With nicknames just like 15 year olds. "haters".

Get over yourself.

What now? You going to track me down and kill me and all my family?

With due deference to Susan's request, I will only quote your 'reply' without further comment. :D

Stop with the personal comments -- everybody!

Susan

Thanks Susan - I'm new to these forums, am enjoying them, but certainly see how some of the comments back and forth could put people off ever bothering to log back in - I thought these were about cycling!

Why don't you STFU douche bag. Lance has talked about Contador being stronger. Even in one of his most recent interviews regarding Team Radioshack and 2010 he discussed Contador's physical performance, now and then, how it relates to Lance's seven-year reign, and pretty much concludes Contador is "the man".

And they have no reason to be "ashamed". Their position all along had been that Contador was in the leader position due to previous performance, but given Lance's huge unknown factor coming back, they left open the possibility that if Lance could ride better than Contador, that would change. Wow, is that so hard to grasp? Big f'kn deal.

You should be ashamed of being a worthless nobody armchair warrior *** that could vanish off the face of the earth without so much as being noticed anymore than that of a turd vanishing down a toilet. ThoughtForFood might notice, though, because he'd be the turd right beside you.

That was classic -- I can't stop laughing.

I wish yo well.

A delusional old fossil. So by that logic everyone who finished behind him (which was everyone but two riders) must be really delusional!!! and a lot of them aren't even old! Yeah the old fossils physical limitations only allowed him to come third in the worlds biggest race riding against guys 10+ years his junior. Today on Ventoux he finished with the two best climbers in the world, what a useless broken down old fogy he must be. Hell he only barely managed to ride Frank Schleck off his wheel...geez he must be bad:rolleyes:

Come on Bro, take of the hate coloured lenses and be prepared to give the guy credit for a bloody good tour. Man I am glad that golf fans didn't slag off Tom Watson for daring to compete in the Open like you slag off the greatest stage racer of his generation for having the audacity to want to return to his sport.

The greatest tour de france racer. Definately not the greatest stage racer. Through out his career he focused on that one stage race and i have no problems with that but do not stretch it. I must admit he was and is still very good.Maybe he should try to win some of the other major tours he did not win while pursuing his 7 tour titles. With Contador and Andy schleck on the rise the 8th tour title is unlikely. A new generation of cyclist is on the rise and they are hungry for success. According to Pedro delgado all the dwarfs started to beleive in themselves and realise that Lance is beatable.

Just a message to some of the new posters here, I used to post on cycling forums, a lot of the people who used to post there now post here, unfortunately name calling and generally childish behavior was the norm, most of them were about 10 years old I think, either physically or mentally. So don't hold your breath if you want intelligent conversation from most of them.

That's from the b!tch slapping Contador gave him during the race.

Lance is 11 years older than Contador, 13 older than Schleck. He beat everyone who was within a decade of his age and what about a minute away from second.

Fantastic performance. Fantastic rider. Superb competitor. 3 years away and comes back to the podium. What a magnificent performance.

We covered that in another thread. Seeing as Contador sleeps in his suit, he rode to the stage. The warm up played heavily in his favor. Unfairly in his favor I might add.

Well- just hours after the tour's finale- here it is the first "Dirty Tale"
(thanks to Krebs303":D
http://www.diariosur.es/20090727/deportes/ciclismo/fiesta-privada-contador-20090727.html

Some excerpts translated:

"A Tale of solitude. It happened on Thursday, a few hours before the Annecy ITT. Contador came downstairs to the entrance of the Palace of Menthon, the luxurious Astana hotel. The Tour was on. He looked right, then left. Nobody, nothing. No Astana cars or helpers. Cold sweat. Quick time check. Where are they? The hotel is several kilometers from the start. There he was, the leader of the Tour, in flip-flops, bag in hand and alone. He went to the hall looking for an answer: Armstrong had ordered the helpers to go pick up his wife, kids and friends to the airport.
Contador left his room last because he was the last one starting the ITT. Armstrong had managed to take away his means of transportation. The straw that broke the camel's back. Hot flashes, he was rabid. He called his brother Fran. He came to pick him up by car and took him to Annecy in a private vehicle. He left last and finished first. His best victory. In the ITT. In solitude. The same way he has won his second tour.

Contador's toughest climb was not recorded in images. It was narrated by others. It was fought in the hotel and the bus: during one stage, Armstrong sat his guests at the very back of the bus, right in Contador's usual seat. One more provocation. Armstrong to the luxury suite. Contador to sleep with Paulinho, the only ally. Same deal during the entire tour. Mouth shut, listening to Armstrong's jabs: "It doesn't take a Nobel price to figure out what happens with side winds". Contador didn't reply in the hotel. He did on the road. He attacked in the first mountain finish in Arcalis. Without permission from Bruyneel, Armstrong's DS. That night the Astana hotel was a funeral. Red eyes from the Texan (anger? crying? not sure). The first cyclist that stood up to him. And he did it in silence."

Wow... this is really amazing if true. Doesn't surprise me about LA but the Hog should have been all over that. He will regret it next year.. unless he doesn't allow AC out of his contract.

Nah. That's a job for a DS. The Hog's job is to say "yes master!" to everything Lance says and then deposit the paycheck at the end of the month.
