Was gutted for Cav like, but a bad in the saddle is what I saw, everyone has one now and again.

HIs team tried hard to get him back but nobody seems to be willing to help Sky & Cav and well, they are not forced to so thats it. Sky & Co have to get used to that I suppose.

Really enjoyed the race.

that was so true for me as well. Even Cav's bad day added to the drama of it. Seems like people here ( well, except for those who bet on the race, okay, which might be way more than I realize) choose to ignore that we watch racing for entertainment, even if we wrap it up in something other than that (like teamloyalty or national tradition).

If I was Cavendish i'd keep on going to break the stage record at the tour and then i'd learn how to get over hills a little bit better to get a shot at some one day races

Why would anyone help Cavendish after he got dropped? Do you expect them to turn around their bikes and ride towards him?

With that logic Cav could even win on Mont Ventoux.

I didnt mean it like that. There were several riders all dropping who, if they wanted could of worked together and close the gap. But didnt, why would they like you say when Cav is so dangerous.

Most of them probably realized that if you get dropped on Le Manie, it's game over. None of these could ever hope of winning this race anyway, so why would they even bother?

Well if thats the attitude why are most of them in the game?

I recall Sky placing themselves and Cav high up on Le Manie and him dropping back quite quickly.

I cant recall however what the tactic was on 2009 when he won it.

Is it a case of just a bad day in the saddle?

Exactly, i would've thought the smart ones would use the race to improve their form, especially if they are getting dropped with nearly over 100kms still to race

According to Cav a bad bad day. Probably spent the evening before with his girlfriend :O

most of the others had teammates in the front group. Team mates who were actively trying to drop Cav because it increased the teams chances of success for the Cav group not to make it back.

I like the guy and I think he has done wonders for the sport. OK, he had a bad day, a really bad day. But as World-Champion, NOT speaking to the media at all afterwards will not win him any more fans. Hiding in the luxury team bus is not the way of a true champion. I have watched many times great athletes Federer, Graf, Nadal, Jordan, Bolt .. etc lose and yet come out and explain all to their fans. Top marks to Eisel though for explaining things at the end of the race.

It's hard to talk when you have your thumb in your mouth.;)

Seriously though, with the wearing of the WC jersey comes responsibilities and he needs to grow up and handle them. Of course he's disappointed in his performance but hiding from the media as he did doesn't show any progress in his maturity or media relation skills.

Why would they make it easy for the sprinters?

Well exactly. If they reached the final km with Cavendish there's a very, very high probability that he'll out sprint everyone. Why would anyone but Sky help him to do that?

I honestly think about 90% of the Peloton are thinking, "I just want to finish this damn race!"

Nonetheless, trying to win it. Like about 10% of them think they can.

I can't even imagine trying to ride a 185mile race. Shoot, I can barely handle the 50mile races as a Cat 4. 70 is a stretch at any kind of pace.

Cav looked smoked though and in pain.

Sadly for Sky, they put all of their eggs and tactics in 1 basket, Cavendish. Even, after having 3-4 guys dropping back to help Cav, and he couldn't even hold their wheels, they had to leave him and hope they could salvage something for a guy who might have a chance. Too late.

Imagine Sky's situation x10 though at BMC. They have so many guys thinking they are the center of attention and game planning, they are never going to win a race!

Most of them probably had finished their work for the day, there would be no point in "limiting losses" for a 60th place in a one day race, so they just ride in slow.

I didn't see Garmin in the front group - surely it would have been worth their while trying to make the bridge?

One of the journalists at Kuurne-Brussel-Kuurne said Cavendish was still too fat by the way, around 5 kilograms overweight according to him. That may be a reason :)

Another one disagrees -

@dankiz1 saw him on the podium at the start. Looked as lean as ever seen him. Just a bad day, it happens. He will bounce back.

There are people who like Cav and people who loathe him that will never change. As said earlier if he had spoken to the media in the mood he was in some people on hear would be having a pop at him for that.
For me he did the right thing collected his thoughts and tweeted how he felt.

It was a bad day and we all have them.

That's part of the problem people have with him though, most adults are able to collect themselves and answer a few questions without any emotional outburst, tantrums or foul language.

It's actually pathetic. What he did was the equivalent of locking oneself in the bathroom and then sliding a note out under the door. If he was iun no mood to talk them he should have done just that, rather than take the weasel way out and tweet.

As for the race BFD. Farrar was dropped from the reports albeit further along.

I feel you need to cut him sone slack, he's a a burning desire to win MSR in the rainbow jersey since he was a boy and not being able to acheive it will have been a crushing disappointment.

We all handle things differently he choose not to speak to the media staright away. personally I don't find that pathetic.

Well, the guy is human! Perhaps not talking is the first step in said progress. In the past he would have spoken with the media and would have said numerous stupid things.
