When Cavenish says there is no competition, in my oppinion he sound like the arrogant *** that he is, I mean, doesn't he know that the first mistake when you're on top is to underestimate the competition, I guess that is the reason why I always root for champions that show respect to competition, Brasil, Contador, and all those great teams/athletes that know there is never a sure thing in life, specially in Cycling where there are too many variables to succeed or fail in equal parts, I sincerelly hope he gets his a s s kicked, I can't stand the cocky *******.

He's right though, there is no competition, certainly not in California and barely any in the TdF (at least there was none last year). No other team has 8 riders babysitting their sprinter and no other sprinter has Cav's pure speed.

It's not arrogance when you back it up. He is absolutely right; there is no competition in Cali, and unless there is intervention on the part of race officials, there is no competition at the Tour. If Cav is there at the end, you might as well save the energy because you've already lost.

EDIT: Regardless if he is cocky, he's still one of the most exciting riders in the pro peloton.

We do have Farrar who has quietly become one the best sprinters and Classics riders in the world IMHO (yes Cav is a better pure sprinter than he is but Farrar is a more complete rider and has beaten Cav before). However Farrar is currently racing in the Giro and also gets close to zero coverage in the USA media because he is overshadowed by the old farts Lance and Levi.

His time is coming. Hincapie started out as a sprinter, and not a very good one compared to the europeans. If Farrar keeps developing as a one day rider then he could notch some great wins.

cav is the best. he proves it time and time again. and even if cali is a shyte small race, cav made a big stink about wanting to win this stage because he screwed it up last year. and so he did. easily. noone in his class. certainly not anyone in the cali race.

i'm not sure why we are talking about farrar. i guess because he is in the second tier right now along with greipel and maybe a couple other guys. this only means he can win if something goes wrong in the htc train. greipel can only win shyte small races, we all know that. who else?

farrar is already better than hincapie--who won what exactly? i think tyler would make an excellent one day specialist.

Sorry to disagree but the loudmouth is Greipel, telling everyone how he is as good as Cavendish. Cavendish wins a lot, but he wins big races: Milan San Remo at his first attempt for example, or shed loads of Grand Tour stages. Greipel has been shouting his mouth off, but sorry to say, thrashing the opposition at the Tour Down Under or Tour of Turkey isn't the same as winning in really big races. The German is looking a little silly right now with his lead out man beating him in the Giro. If you believe Greipel he should be winning Giro stages, not missing a split that the likes of Farrar don't. He was also well beaten by Farrar in one sprint and Weylandt in another, finishing in 4th and 6th places, I doubt if Cavendish would have lost to those two. Of course Greipel will no doubt claim that he isn't being given the backing that Cavendish gets, but lets be honest, if you were in charge of Columbia HTC who would you put your backing behind?

Cavendish maybe be somewhat graceless, but he does at least deliver on his boasts.

And who are the first people he gives credit to when he wins? That's right: the team. Cavendish is always at pains to point out that he finishes off the superb work of his team. Successful sprinters have nearly always had dedicated teams behind them (Cippolini for example, or Van Poppel's Superconfex in the eighties). The point surely is that the teammates are willing to do the work because a) Cavendish delivers the finish, and b) Cavendish makes them feel valued and appreciated. That is part of what being a leader of a team is about. One of Armstrong many strengths was his ability to make a team unite behind him: hell he even got the team behind him last year in the tour when they should have been backing Contador.
