Yup. As Benotti69's pictures show, he looks pretty awful on his TT bike too:

Compare with for instance Tony Martin:

Or F. Schleck:

Or Cadel Evans, who's so low he could file his nails on his front wheel:

And I think he's actually a tiny bit lower this year on his BMC.

Big Mig OTOH is still looking lean and mean: http://twitpic.com/202535

Jeebus! He looks like one of the freds with tri bars that I see while riding. You know the ones. They sit up so high in the saddle that you wonder why they are using tri bars at all. They could achieve a better aero position just by stretching out over the top tube with their hands on the hoods of a regular drop bar. The freds often have less paunch as well.

Gut does look huge and TT's sucked but he was still able to finish 2nd in the TdS. He'll have his mules pace him up the mountain as far as they can, then it's all him while they just lost any chance of success they might still have. He can't use any of them in the time trials. Look for LA finishing ahead his teammates on all stages except TTs. Lower top 10 in the Tour.

He couldn't even run the NY Marathon on his own. He had a who's who of past winners pace him and he only managed to finish it 2:58-ish. Jalabert finished in 2:48-ish (not same year) without million-dollar pacers. I recall many at SlowTwitch believing he could run it under 2:15.

Versus work is complete.

He does look slightly taller, doesn't he? Not a good picture, though, as their legs aren't completely straight.

I was going to put down Lance's official height. He is supposedly 177cm, which I can extrapolate from all the pictures containing him next to AC, (AC is allegedly 175cm) is quite believable. LA looks about 1-2 centimetres taller than AC. One thing about the man that I do not question, his actual height. Does anyone have any pictures of Lance with celebrity buddies. Say for example Ben Stiller? Stiller is approx. 170cm, so a photo of the two next to one another, given you can see their shoes, would almost certainly confirm whether Lance and everyone else around him lie about their actual height.

While hanging around Hollywood he may have taken advice from Tom Cruise and his elevator shoes, so pics may not be of much use. He is 5' 9.5".

No. Check the recent videos of him training in the Pyrenees. His kit is open and there is nothing but an undershirt and a bit of gut (probably muscular, but it does protrude a bit).

You don't see that on any other cyclists. His results say he must have reasonable fitness.

Whoa! That's a serious muffin top.

Actually his stomach looks like this because he is using a technique called Diaphragmatic breathing.

Damn, I didn't know I was breathing incorrectly all these years.

Never knew the limiting factor was how much air you could take into your lungs.

that technique must overcome the limitation.

Thanks Lance, high cadence, weight loss, FRS, focus, and now blowing your belly up. Is Lim putting ice on your nut too?

Most amature riders do not know how to maximize their air intake, so you probably aren't breathing incorrectly; just not optimized. You can mock the response I gave all you want; but, that is most likely what it is.

What part of "Never knew the limiting factor was how much air you could take into you lungs." did you not understand?

Actually, you're wrong. Most experts believe our natural way of breathing is "belly breathing" and it's not something you have to think about and practice.

Mostly it has to do with relaxation rather than tensing up.

relaxing like it's taught in tai chi is very important in many sports, especially combat sports. Most people are so tense they waste a lot of energy.

Actually, I am correct. Yes, belly breathing is natural. Do a little more research and you will understand why natural belly breathing is not optimized. Carmichael taught me TRUE Diaphramatic breathing in the late 80's and it makes a big difference. Again, a little more research and all you armchair riders might give it a go.

Just out of curiosity, but does anyone have a recent picture of Lance upright and looking fat? Or even on a road bike as opposed to down in the TT position?

His gut pretty much always looked big in TT's... right? I mean here's an image from the discovery days... and it looks about the same to me.

It was even there during the USPS days too:

Did you develop any unexplained autoimmune issues after you started working with Chris?

He's always had a paunch and rounded back but it definitely seems worse since his comeback. At his age and with the few years off I think his flexibility isn't the same and he just can't get into the same TT position. I doubt he's putting the time in on his TT bike that he has in the past. A lot of the other guys are either TT specialists and are dialed in or they suck at TT's and have been putting in a lot of time to improve position. Plus, the Shack's horrible kit colors aren't doing him any favors.
