“I think it’s pretty straightforward for him,” Sky’s Rod Ellingworth told Cyclingnews when asked why Froome had opted to take part in Flèche Wallonne.

“One is [because of] the Tour” [the Flèche Wallonne route covers the same finale as stage 2 of the 2015 Tour de France – ed.]. “Two, it’s a WorldTour race and Chris likes this race, and three, he’s had a good training block, and a good day of racing before he goes into Romandie is important.”

I wonder what other people make of that.

It seems an odd thing to have as a motivation for Froome: if it was a Valverde or Rodriguez situation and he had a chance of winning the overall standings of the WT, I would understand that comment, but Froome is in no way a contender for tomorrow, and will probably do well to finish in the top forty... for reference, when he last raced in FW in 2010, he was 119th, 11 mins behind the winner, and who knows how he's feeling after the bizarre Catalunya performance.

Haven't you heard anything before Sept of 2011 doesn't count? That is when the New, Amazing, Skybot who needed a contract suddenly appeared from nowhere. The new Froome is capable of a remarkable performance at FW......

It's purely a reconn for Froome. If he can do anything, which I doubt he is interested in, it won't be for himself but could be interesting if he does/can let it it rip. It's not for him though...

Froome can win this, you never known with this guy. It would be hilarous if he won it in his style

As has been often stated about Fleche Wallone and the Mur, timing is essential and that usually takes multiple actual participations in the event to get it right. If he is in the mix at the base of the final ascent I imagine he will go too soon as many do, blow up and be passed by the more experienced, on form riders. I can't see him winning this. For me it wouldn't be hilarious at all. Personally it would be quite sickening to be honest.

If he was the strongest rider (and I can't imagine anyone seriously believes he will be) of the race, how can his victory be "sickening"? I'm extremely sceptical he'll finish in the main group any way, so I doubt you'll have much to worry about.

As I said, it's personal. Don't like Sky and don't like Froome. Certain riders on the team I don't mind their winning but I'm happy for that individual rider's success, not the team's. If Froome wins, which I seriously doubt will happen today, good for him but I won't be popping champagne or firing up a stogie in celebration.

I wonder what he'll jot down in his reconnaissance diary for the Tour.

"Today, everything turned to ***. The stage *** blows. If they attack me here I'm done"

if in normal shape he won't lose a second to the winner of this stage, in fact he can win some seconds

but i very much doubt he will ever get a clean path toward a gt, with no crashes, illness and other type of distractions.

his luck has ran out

he should have taken Vuelta 2011 and TdF 2012 when he had the chances

his times are over

If he can stay on his bike he still will be a factor in the grand tours and stage races in general. This season he's shown he's got similar form to his dominant 2013 season. It's just a matter of staying on his bike. His problem is that with his fragile physique, he seems to take falling off his bike harder than most of his rivals.

Sports Director Gabriel Rasch: “Chris was also pretty banged up but showed real courage to finish the race and we’ll assess his injuries overnight. He hasn’t needed to go to hospital and right now as things stand, we’re still expecting him to line up at the Tour de Romandie next Tuesday. He, Sergio and Nicolas Portal are scheduled to do a recon of the cobbled sections on the Tour de France tomorrow"

Seems like Nordhaug is ok,while Poels was sent to hospital for X-Rays as a precaution, because he hurt his shoulder pretty badly.

he started Romandie ahead of every GC contender. +14 seconds. He is going to be hard to dethrone. Looks like his Romandie title defence is going better from the start. Baring any incident, he has bigger chance to win it again for the 3rd time

Froome is so dreamy. :p Look at that handsome face.

Froome is rubbish and looks like an egg
Whaat? He is tall, mysterious and his face is symmetrical. He is objectively better looking than Contador. Not as good looking as Bradley, but no one in the peloton is that.
