Maybe Sky should reconsider their Giro/Tour teams. I don't think Porte needs THAT strong a Giro team.

What team do you think they should bring to the Tour?

I don't think so.If Kennaugh and G. are healthy, they will fly in TDF.Porte needs that team because the Giro imo is way harder.

When it looked like Froome was struggling, Quintana did a few digs but when the Dawg reemerged and worked his way to the front, from that moment on Quintana was a beaten man and would not dare put in another attack, afraid to expose himself to vicious counter.

Froome really is quite unique in that he routinely drags along, and sheds, all his main rivals. Least reluctant to lead all the way up a mountain amongst all the big GC riders.

When Froome was behind he attack and closed down others attacks several times. Once Froomey got to the front he didn't dare to help him, afraid Froomey would attack him, nor make any attack. He just hoped Froome would tow him all the way up to Pinot.

After today race, a race he smocked in the past two editions, it's safe to say we're looking at Froome 3.0. The Yo-Yo Froome, just like 2004 Voeckler but with happy endings.
Fun to watch.

That's true, this is a different froome. It all started in the vuelta 2014.

Froome, Poels, Nieve, Kennaugh, Roche, Kiryienka, Nordhaug (based on how he looked in PN and great on the many steep hilly climbs that will be in this year's Tour), Thomas, Stannard.

Henao can lead the Vuelta. Better suited for his style of riding.

Maybe you are right and i'm expecting too much from Quintana :)

nice analysis.
Quintana did not attack once Froome came back and put is steady pace.
it was a nice stage. with 10k to go, Froome at the back, was a bit scary. but he found his pace and kept the race upbeat (the cameras did not catch the moment when he upped the pace and distanced Nibali Uran Scarponi)
let's see what Zakarin does tomorrow

Even at the 2014 Vuelta, the two big MTF that Contador won, it was Froome who was setting the pace all the way up, getting rid of everyone except Contador, who dared to attack only in the last km to put like 10-15 seconds into Froome. Contador was leading by that point so it makes sense to ride this way, but still, Froome is the most fearless and supremely confident climber in the peloton.

Froome not looking at his stem. Do you think he would have been better and ridden away if it wasn't raining?

I noticed that he was to look up more frequently when it rains. Another example is that rainy stage of the Vuelta last year where Contador rode away from the peloton. Then later Purito rode away with Quintana on his wheel and Froome had to do the chasing.

Well that's yet to be challenged really Sam. Unfortunately, we missed out last year in the TDF, when Contador and Nibali were in fantastic form to test it but we know what happened and maybe we will never ever know. BUT we can live in hope for this year's TDF and throw in Quintana and Pinot and possibly Bardet. You're post makes sense to a point but he is most certainly not the most fearless and supremely confident climber in the peloton just yet. He has a way to go yet to take that mantle from Contador and, if my hunch is right this year, he will always be a bridesmaid to Quintana also...

I'd rather say he just doesn't have any tactical sense.

today it was every man for himself. he had to gamble to keep the gap from increasing. the others would have not pulled anyway (astana and movistar, bar quintana, were distanced, so no one to pull at the front)

I liked Froome very much today.

Contador is actually a very defensive rider. Just remember his track stands with Andy.. Froome would simply never do this. And yes, you can call that tactically inferior, which it is, but it is fearless and confident. It seems that he always climbs to the best of his ability, undeterred by what everyone else does, always showing his cards. That's fearless and supremely confident.

Quintana may well turn out to be the better climber at the Tour. It seems to be what the markets expect. He may well have been the better climber today as well, but fearless and confident, he was not.

Who do you think is strongest right now in this moment. Porte, Froome or Contador? I'd like to see your top 3.

I don't think he was enjoying the weather too much, judging by the tweet associated with the pic: "Nice day for a leisurely ride #TDR2015"
