Yes, the 3 time Tour De France winner doesn't know what he is doing
let's not overreact like some bertie's fans tend to do. :p of course he knows what he needs to be at peak of his game when needed most then all of us combined. however it doesn't guarantee him from making mistakes as any other human being. ;) it seems quite obvious froome was planning to win the dauphine, but something went wrong today. bring on the mountains!

It's only natural if he believes that he needs to alter his preparation for winning both the Tour and the Vuelta in the same year that he would have less than stellar effort and form at the Dauphine than in previous years. He's been saving himself all year with a slow build up. To expect him to still be dominant this early in the program isn't realistic or practical IMO. Porte should be the one that is worried as he may be peaking too soon but all of this is premature until we see what happens in the mountains.

When Contador dominated, there were barely any good Itters though, **** Grabsch won WCC, says it all

Ehm what? Grabsch won the WC ITT in 2008, when Contador rode the Giro/Vuelta. Naturally he didn't face the same competition in those races as he did in the Olympics and like he would have if he rode the Tour. Cancellara won the WC in 2007, 2009 and 2010. He was, as you might be aware, an excellent time trialist. In 2008 Cancellara went for the TT in the Olympics, which he won (Contador finished 4th, Grabsch 14th). He didn't even participate in the WC (neither did Contador). I don't remember why, but it's not like Grabsch was the best TTer in the world back then.

When Contador won the TDF in 2007 and 2009 he competed against specialists such as Cancellara, Larsson, Millar etc. and GC contenders with strong ITT capabilities like Evans and Leipheimer.

“I’ve still got three weeks now after the Dauphine in terms of time trial work and it’s obviously something that I’m going to have to do a bit more work on. I’ve done everything right up until now and I’ll just keep going up until the Tour.”

Seems like he hasn't been training too much on the TT bike, remember in 2015 he did the same and had a very poor TT on stage 1 of the Tour, a week later Pierre Saint-Martin happened, so let's not get too carried away.
Needs context, as I said he did much better in the time trial in Romandie so thats pretty worrisome aint it?

Edit: I mean, compared to his climbing in that race.

Perhaps, but then he did say after Romandie that he had a slight lower back issue, which would have hindered him. I don't recall he did that well in the TT at Romandie and still lost a fair amount of time to Porte.

His performance righ now is quite worrying, not just now but all the year. It is true that his main objetive is le Tour and the second will probably be la Vuelta, so he need to take easy, but he used to be very strong in Romandia and Dauphine with just his 80 % shape.

We dont know if this is consecuence of another planning or not.

Anyway, if he finish Dauphine in the podium, that would be an important improvement respect Romandie, so he could be in the right way to his usual level at le Tour.

This Tour route is not good for him, so he will needs to be at his very best to win it.

And I think Quintana will be his main rival if he is at his best, not like in the Giro when he was some key days little bit sick.

"He's he is very, very motivated now to see how he compares against the others in the mountains.”

But it won't be enough. Richard is the new patron of the peloton

so how do we think his shape is now? nowhere near where he was last year fitness wise I think.
I really think he is very close to last year. Last year he didn't drop porte like this year
