It's only natural if he believes that he needs to alter his preparation for winning both the Tour and the Vuelta in the same year that he would have less than stellar effort and form at the Dauphine than in previous years. He's been saving himself all year with a slow build up. To expect him to still be dominant this early in the program isn't realistic or practical IMO. Porte should be the one that is worried as he may be peaking too soon but all of this is premature until we see what happens in the mountains.
