Things went well for him today, but clearly, his powers are not like previous years, otherwise he would have dropped everyone on Chat.

With Porte gone and Martin losing a bunch of time things look pretty damn good from where he is sitting.

I think the route today wasn't great for a race winning attack, I think Froome was thinning the group out, that last 13km of flat would pretty much neutralize any gains on Mont du Chat, no real point for Froome to waste energy. Bardet proved that as he was brought back after his descent attack

If the stage would've ended right at the bottom of the descent I'm sure he'd have gone over the top alone

Elissonde should be at the Vuelta as well. That team should be good enough. Especially with Poels and Boswell. Stronger than last year actually since Kennaugh should be fresh and motivated as well. One of the Henao Bros might be a useful addition on top.

But this Tour is far from over for Froome. Bardet is a more dangerous rival than Quintana strangely enough.

What about G guys?
Can he be back in a couple of weeks and be ready for Vuelta?
He's definitely a man to have no matter how bad...
I don't think so... he already prepared himself for two gt's this season. Sky will have poels, elissonde, henao, nieve and intxausti (?). Froome will be fine

So far he looks on the right track to peaking later in the Tour, which gives me confidence he'll be (more) able to sustain that form into the Vuelta. Also no Olympic games in between, might help as well haha.

I'm impressed with Froome today, the lion is getting older but wiser :)
There are many animals that could be used to compare Froome to, but a lion's not one of them.

Ah I heard the story about the press conference on the cycling podcast which made me laugh. Sky requested only 3 questions for Froome so they could get to their plane quickly and recover.

First question in English was what did you think about Aru's attack and also your nudge of Aru? Froome says he didn't see anything and wasn't intentional etc

Next guy is a french journalist who asks the exact same question because he didn't understand it was just asked. Froome says he already answered that and the guy should wait for the translation.

The same guy still not understanding then repeats the same question once again. Froome says that's your 3 questions and gets up and leaves the room.

Their chance at winning the Tour was dashed so it's a bit understandable if they're less than enthusiastic about taking questions. Leading the Tour comes with media obligations. If they want to carry the jersey from here to Paris they have to take on the responsibilities that come with it.

Realistically other than poels, who else does he have to call on in at the veulta that is top notch? He is going to be a whole lot more vulnerable to another formigal scenario.

Poels, Rosa, Kennaugh, Boswell, Moscon, Puccio, Stannard, Golas/Deignan/David Lopez. He will win easily. No multi mountain stages but flat stages with brutal climbs at the end, extremely hot weather. Vuelta suits him the most of the GTs and this year he doesn't have strong rivals. Nibali and Chaves will be his biggest competitors. Maybe Dumoulin if he targets it but I doubt.
In TdF he gives me the impression that he simply learned how to win it. Best team, super hard tempo so no one attacks, trying to steal seconds everywhere etc..
TdF Sky team and TdF phisique levels of Froome in the Vuelta would murder the field.

Usually Froome is much more interesting in the Vuelta than the Tour because he has a weaker team and needs to attack as he has a stronger rival. Also, it is fun to watch him yo-yo.
I think, however, that in this year's Vuelta, Sky and Froomey will try boss it like the Tour. He will have an incredibly strong team and will likely be the strongest rider.

Having said that, how about we focus on the little matter of winning the Tour de France for now. :p

If they have an evening flight to catch and try to get some post stage recovery in then it makes complete sense for most teams to cut short their post stage interviews.

If they attempt to avoid answering these same questions tomorrow then what are we to think? Brailsford's attitude doesn't help matters.

I think Dumoulin is targeting the Vuelta too. I'm hoping he comes with his Giro form for the Vuelta. If it's just Nibali and Chavez, yeah, Froome finally can win Tour/Vuelta double.
