When I heard in today's Tour of Slovakia that Peter Sagan attacked on a Cat 2 climb 14k from the finish I was fascinated to see if Chris Froome could stay with that pace.
Well, he couldn't, he finished 86th at 1min 49 behind the winner.
Now, I did not see the race so maybe I'm being unfair and he had a crash/mechanical or team tactics came into play.
If not he still obviously does not have that ability to put in a big effort and live with the best.
On the positive side, plenty of riders finished behind him, 5-8 mins-plus down on the winner.

Maybe he's been watching footage of the boy Remco and has reinvented himself as a sustained power with no kick specialist #inspiration.
There is a far simpler explanation is right leg is stuffed and he still has a large power deficit in it, which doesn't appear to be fixable.

Very good Froome in this race. Even with rain 2 days. He has been always working for Einhorn and finally he has been 23 in GC, so very good result in this case. The team was very strong with 5 of his seven riders... Einhorn winning today, with the important help of Froome every day, Neilants 12th in GC, Varthra very good in the sprint preparation and Fredick Hagen one of the best on the climbs... Hope to see Frolme improving more and getting a good result in Sicily and his best result ever in a monument in Lombardia. He will come back!!!

I wonder if, in the stage where he lost 1m49, he didn't have to change his bike following a mechanical. He was still in the peloton at 21kms and it took a while for his name to appear in the results.

Last stage in Slovakia was the flatter, but the begining has several climbs...first of them maybe the hardest of the race..The star was full gas, with Sagan in all the breaks, but it is important to see that in the penultimate break before the last one of 26 riders, Froome was there as the unique rider of his team, as we see in this picture

The speed was high in this tour, especially the last stage(average of 46.1 km/h), and he could sustain that speed, wich is some news for froome this year, he always was dropped when the speed was high. But let's see if it was just a exeptional reasonable day.

Accompanied was a photo from the Tour of Slovakia of him leading a pack of riders.
Has Froome turned the corner?
If he has should he keep his mouth shut and just let his legs do the talking?
Before the race he also tweeted: 'Some training days just hit different!Sunshine, good tunes & strong legs.'
Now, he was plugging yet another product in that tweet, but did seem to suggest his form is improving with the 'strong legs' reference.
Does anybody on here truly believe these are the early, promising signs of Froome's return to Grand Tour contention?

let's be realistic, he's not gonna be in his pre crash form... ever. he'll most likely struggle to win any stage in the world tour calendar in the future (bar very lucky circumstances). period.

Other races he didnt really work...the difference here is that he got that result working a lot and not worry about GC.
Sicily is a hard race with big climbs,,,but we will see if Etna is possible this time, or even the race itself, becouse Etna Volcano is alive again...
We will see wich roll Froome has there.. there is just one stage for sprinters, Nibalii, Valverde, Soler and Bardet are other stars presents..but I would like the team work for him to see what he is able to do.
so, following your logic, Sagan winning the GC in this tour, isn't very impressive if we look at the names of those riders....

Actually considering Sagan's career achievements, this one ranks pretty low on his list of wins.
And Peter Sagan isn't a Grand Tour rider, Chris Froome was. Peter Sagan has other skills (sprinting, classics, cobbles, world championships etc.) which Chris Froome never had.
So maybe Chris Froome should renegotiate his contract down to a level more suitable for his current reality on a bike.

Nobody can prevent him from going to fantasy land. The theory of Froome winning another TDF is more like a flat earth theory. People can choose to believe no matter the data. Why you mean about Froome contract? It is affect you in anyway?? I see the value of about he is doing, is historic, and he could in the futuire fight for le Tour,
This was a race for sprinters. He was helping at his sprinter and he did very well, Irt is not still the level he showed in the past, but is an improvement..at leat with Germany..where, yes, it was raining cat and dogs..But the weater wanst really good ar Slovakia, so it is an improvement
Can he do another step up to get the condition to figh for a GC? We will see... it is going to tale time...
Is this anough to get the leadership of the team at Sicily?? Maybe no Nailant was stronger in general, and Fredick Hagen was climbing better...and sicily has 2 stages for a possible sprint and Eimhorn has demostrated he could be there and pass the climb with help..and maybe Froome miust be part of that help.
Or maybe those names wont be at Sicily, but Hermans or Dan Martin... and Froome should help them. Working or not, is not difficult to see if the level is improving, and with and step more, Froome will deserve a team working for him.
In Lombardia he should work and even doestn finish, but I hope he can get his best result ever in a Monument.
By the way, he is a man for GT, and he has only ride Liege. his best result has been 45th in 2009, before to be famous, and 36 th, after to win his first Tour. It will be difficult to improve that, but who knows...
