Chris decided for another approach this year. No need to make headlines now If he can do it in July showing those younger mutants who's the true alpha...

Exactly… I remember very well, when Lance and Johan went to the Pyrenees in spring of 1999, just to get to know the climbs of the 1999 TdF.

Johan was behind, in a car from a German car rent company (licence plate something like „WI-XU …“, for German town of Wiesbaden). Lance climbed for 5-7 hours every day, even in really bad, cold, rainy weather.

Chris probably is doing the same, now. Lance and Chris both knew/know, at this time of the year, it‘s just „getting the miles in“… :)

Showdown will be in July. Pozzovivo leader for the Giro, and Chris for the Tour. Project „#5“ is fully on..

I'm curious to see what will happens on his next race. It will come some really bad or some really good surprise.
Yes. It looks like bad or good...but, considering the team wont be at La Vuelta, It is quite dissapointing he is not at T of the Alps...but anyway, the team need to give races to everybody.

I like to see him racing, even helping the team, droping un the first climb, etc... and looking at his progress...but maybe the team want we dont talk about him, except he has a shape at least like last T d France.

I can imagine that if his injuries were finally sufficiently healed to allow for a winter of hard training he could have a high enough base level this year to do something.

Of course, anything more than a top-10 in Paris will be a huge ask but he has the advantage of not having to do any work, a solid climbing level to conserve further energy and the element of surprise. All good things to have if you want to have a shot at the Champs.

Potential explanations:

1) Froome has had some physical issues and therefore is not ready for TotA.

2) Froome is making big progress on training camps so they have decided to extend this.

3) Froome is not making any progress on training camps and they are trying to find an explanation.

4) Froome is riding the Giro as well as the TdF since there is no Vuelta so they do not want to over race him.

5) Froome is making HUGE progress on training camps and will ride no more races until TdF where he will school Pogi and Jonas to win a record equalling 5th title.

I think scenario number 5 is most likely so we will not see him until July. What is the Tourmalet climbing record?

Yes. I think as well there is no more possibilities and scenario 5 is most likely, so It is a pity for me not be able to analyze his races till July...

Seriously, all af them have his possibilities, but scenario 4 is taking now more...But anyway is strange he is totally missing except publicity contracts, but he said in interviews or in Twitter he will be at Catalunya and Alps...

Any word if IPT might leave Froome home for this years TDF?

I know the past couple of years the DS had threatened to leave Froome off the team unless he first showed some results before the Tour, only to include him on the team even without achieving any results.

Could this be the year IPT actually leaves him home?

He did a better Tour last year than Fulgsang and Woods, so.. and he was in position to be top 20, even looking for stages and to be on the break before to get Covid. No doubt he has to be on le Tour if he is like last year.

IPT have submitted his name for Hungary so I guess that will be his next race at the latest.
He is as well for Romandie. If he finally ride there he wont be at the Giro.
It is quite strange this silence around him...he is a mediatic rider and is a good way to take advantage from him when he is not performing at a high level

The Aspin->Tourmalet->Cauterets stage takes place on the 10th anniversary of Ax 3 Domaines. It would be incredibly symbolic if Froome could finally silence his detractors on this day.

Things remain very, very quiet on the Chris Froome front.
He has not posted on Strava recently or even tweeted to let us know what he is up to.
Above all he is not competing in any races whatsoever.
Does anybody think he is about to announce his retirement?
I think there is a chance he has finally come to the end of the road.

6. Froome is less talented / lower quality than Lilian LeBreton and somehow has won multiple grand tours.

Stone me, but that's the answer.

Ah, but Lebreton was not that bad… :) The good old days, when BigMat-Auber rode the TdF (sometimes the only team riding there with steel frames still, whereas the others already rode alu frames and carbon forks)…

Froomey at Barloworld was like Lebreton at BigMat, maybe…

Very short stages today for people like him.
He is going to tour of hongrie.
I knew, That way the silence is not caused to a plan change and go to the Giro. it is quite strange all of this, becouse he used to keep informed to his fans. anyway he will be first at Romandie on tuesday. I have to see that to confirm..but at the moment he is at procyclingstats

I have no idea about this change of his exposure...but I will be very surprised if that is the reason. He is going to give all, and maybe he can get a better level that he reached at last year Tour, wich was quite good.

I dont expect too much from the prologue for him, but from tuesday on I think we will have some answers.

Nobody here have contact with the team to know something??

Froome has become a ninja in the peloton.......who would have thought but of course the race callers always have to mention him and point him out wherever he is in the field so not a fully qualified ninja just yet.

Given his lack of media in the last few months I am inclined to think things aren't getting any better, we'll see though.
