Nobody will care about him if he anonymously rides in the gruppetto... there's nothing to gain PR wise.

He risks an OTL at this rate.

I don't think taking him even for 'sponsorship reasons' (whatever that even means because it sounds ridiculous) would make any sense considering the real danger is he's just so bad he doesn't finish the Tour.

It's not like he's much help anyway as it is even when he completes a stage.

Taxus was banging the Froome drum on forodeciclismo forums back in 2008, I'm not even joking.

Here is a blog post he made 11 years ago;

If he's trolling then he is surely up there with the greatest in the history of the internet.
That has the to be the weirdest fandom lifecycle , from absolute obscurity to the joys of winning everything and then back to where it all started with a DNF every second race.

Legendary froome performance this week.

Said he wanted to save his legs and get in breakaways in the mountains stages to try for a result.

Didn't make a single breakaway. Didn't even try

Said he wanted to make the le Tour team on merit.

Finished last of his team on GC.

To make the tour team he would have to be selected over one of Gee, Tuens, Neilants, Fuslgang, Houle, Woods, Bennett, Steven William, Ackerman. On merit it would even be better to take Ricitello, Van asbrocke, Sheehan or Hofstedter right now.

Just picking up his wages. Nothing more than that. I don't see what he brings to the team if he goes to the TDF. Other than taking the spot of a younger, more deserving rider. Seeing him finish OTL at the TDF would amuse me though. Or being kicked off for taking a tow from a motorbike...

I enjoyed Froome being really bad for a while, given how much I suffered under his reign, but now it's just starting to get sad, while also being obscene in a way, because he takes tons of money for near zero return. But of course it's stealing from the rich to give to the poor (in results, i.e. Froome himself). So it's also funny from this side.
Nah, still 100% funny.

I assume Froome tried to call in some favors from the sponsors and force IPT to take him to this years TDF. (Probably got him into the Dauphine as well). Unfortunately, he isn't even an "average" rider any longer. Poor or piss poor is the only way to describe him now.

I hope he isn't one of those guys that ends up self destructing in retirement. He just doesn't seem to be able to let go (although the signs have been there for years). If I am the team owner, I encourage Froome to start seeing a psychologist for his mental health.

look at him, and then look at his wife. she is pushing him to get as much money as he can. another goob geek trying to satisfy a woman out of his league. pretty clear to see. and his team goes along. its very funny to watch. self respect is secondary to make as much as he can.

Chris 81th in the GC, no impact on any stage. Probably peaking for the 3rd week of the Tour, some hard miles still needed. Or maybe there was some technical problem with his bike? But he's getting closer to the first half of the GC (154 riders started), which is promising. The peleton was very harsh to breakaways so Chris decided not to burn his matches for no effect and save himself for the big July battle. Hopefully the team realizes his projected form curve and we will witness his epic long-ranger on Bonette (accompanied by "I'm gone, I'm dead" shouted by another rider).

Probably he will be there because of the sponsors and the attention he brings for the team.

In sports terms, he is finished and doesn't deserve to be there.
Chris Froome is the cycling equivalent of hospice!! Teams have people who are hungry, are willing to do anything for the chance to ride a grand tour. To give Froome a spot is disingenuous and damaging to the sport and team, the elite races are not if he participates.
Every race I see Froome ride I ask " what is he waiting for? " somewhere in my question is some thought that he doesn't want to embarrass himself, and then anyone can ask did Marc Soler embarrass himself? After all he got destroyed.. but his style and motivation separates him from Froome . Part of Froome legacy will be that he went through the motions for years, collecting a huge check and phoning it in

Yes he does still love riding his bike............at touring speed...............might be time for the panniers and a cycling holiday..........without pay............

If he had a bit more humility about him I'd feel sorry but his attitude (as well as his wife's) these last few years has been a joke.
It actually shouldn't be hard for him to get sympathy. He's had a horrendous crash, he's quite old, he's been a bit unlucky with injuries since. Be open about these struggles while clear cut admitting that he's way way underperforming compared to what's expected from him. Also be a bit more genuine supportive regarding your teammates.
Instead he keeps rambling about bizarre niche things like his saddle height being wrong in secondary races, openly criticizes the team and it's clear as day that he doesn't give a *** about his teammates.

Maybe his team are hoping for his form to change as drastically as it did in the time between the 11 Tour de Pologne and the start of that years Vuelta Espana. Other than that...
