Very interested to see just what Froome's form is regarding that Dauphine crash. Let's face it: he cannot afford to lose big time that first week, bearing in mind stage 2 and stage 5. If he comes through relatively unscathed, he has a great chance.

No offense, but you sound like a Froome fan getting your excuses in early.

Just curious, and I have searched fruitlessly for an answer so I hope someone may have a reference for this.

What is the traditional etiquette for a rider who reaches the second step in the Tour with regards to prize money?

Is all prize money from the podium shared between the team, as the team worked hard to get the rider there just as they would have for the top step on the podium?

Is there etiquette for when a team takes first and second prizes in the Tour?

What happened with Froome's €200,000 prize winnings for taking second place in the Tour in 2012?

We know Wiggins withheld Froome's share of the €450,000 victor's purse; did Froome equally split the €200,000 with the team also? If not, why not? If not, would it not make sense for Wiggins to have split the €450,000 with the other team members only, as Froome had arguably earned more for second place. Why would the second place prize not be split between the team?

Any references would be great.

I don't know this for a fact but I think all prize money is pooled together and split equally between the team. I think Wiggos prize money was split fine; it was actually his win bonus from the team (or sponsors) that he withheld from Froome but gave to the rest of the team. This would have been just a proportion of the bonus not an equal split.

Though I am not 100% sure on any of this and can't remember where i read it; possible in inside team sky by david walsh?

It's also a tradition for a tour winner to give his teammates a watch. Theres a well known story about Contador giving Armstrong his at the start of the next years tour on the radioshack bus.

The way it normally works is after any GT the prize money earned by all of the riders on a team goes into a pot and is then evenly (or proportionally) distributed amongst the riders & staff. The winner usually (at least for the TDF) forgoes taking any money out the pot. So Froome's money would've been split between the team.

I think wiggins was just making things difficult. :p

If the interviews that he gave yesterday are anything to go by then it seems like the crash had a big impact on his training after the Dauphine and that he's only just returned to ''normal'' in the last week or so. So the potential is there for him to get found out on stages 2 and 5.

Don't be silly. If a rider crashes and it affects their training then it's obviously going to have an impact on the performance of that rider.

I fear we're not going to see both Contador and Froome at their best. Typical really. Just like with Boonen and Cancellara in the classics.

As I understood it, Froom did get his share of the prize money right away, because that pot is controlled by Sky, not Wiggins. It was Wiggins contractual win bonus that was not shared, but I stand to be corrected.

He can add a new chapter to the second edition of his autobiography telling that he beat Kristoff and Rojas in a sprint

It wasn't a waste, Sky will now have the Team car near the front in case something goes wrong, on these narrow roads of stage 2 it could be crucial.

good point

Based on his book, he's far more likely to say that he beat Cavendish in a sprint.
