Bertie is not scared to lose that's why he's going for the double. No one can match him. if they could they would race the Giro as well. Cluck cluck cluck

Congrats to Froome..
He was the best prepared man in the race and deserved the victory. Showed improvement in every department.
I don't believe he can reach much higher level of form.

Yeah he didn't sound too good in the interview so it's a fair effort from him. He did say though that half the peloton have been ill over this Tour so it wasn't really an excuse.

According to Carsten Jeppesen, Froome has been suffering from a bit of illness including bronchitis the last few days

froome hasn't formalized his win officialy yet whereas you are just there ready to belittle it to a certain extent. froome is not blame for contador being not in top form. one can million times contemplate about what shoulda coulda woulda happened, but the truth is froome is good enough to win the biggest bike race for the 2nd time in 3 years.

He's been pretty bad at TTs this year though, but that may have been part of the plan.

Froome said at the start of the Tour he has hardly spent any time on the TT bike this year as there was no point.

It's fine, what you said is true. Congrats to him, he won his 2nd Tour .

But there's a difference between what you said and start claiming ' best GC rider, strongest climber bla bla bla', because that is completely wrong.
Being in yellow in Paris doesn't mean you are the best GC rider nor best climber. You have to look at the bigger picture. Like last year, Nibali won by 7 min, he is neither the best climber nor the best GC rider.

Some people need time to realise some things

you are, partly, right. maybe there was no need to answer to Ray. but I had that tweet in my mind for a while.
it´s just I would never tweet such things about Alberto or any other rider

anyway, better stop and enjoy the week end.
I need a Madiot video from the car! :D

The only thing Blurry meant is that this Tour win doesn't prove he is currently the best GC rider.

I'm very happy for Froome. Not the expected ride from him today,he needed to dig deep because Quintana was great but with the help of Richie and Wout he made it and added another TDF to his tally :)

Cheers Pricey.. Wow what a last stage , Fantastic. Froome did so well to hang on and Quintana [to late though]
finally let rip.
At 4K to go I was not sure what was going to happen.... great stuff
I really enjoyed the last week with the attacks and Movies awful tactics but it made for an exciting finish and even tough Quintana proved himself the better climber this last week I think Froome was a worthy champion and rode a lot smarter.

Be interesting to see if Froome /Quintana/Nibs go for the Vuelta. I doubt Berti will. The double was just to much.

Congrats to Froome a deserved win and a great tour.

As for pastrychef,,, I don’t argue with Idiots, they bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Who you beat and what form they are in matters a great deal, but generally speaking, winning the Tour is obviously the strongest evidence a rider is the best GC rider.

Of course, Nibali and Contador failing to show their best form means there is still some uncertainty as to what would happen in the hypothetical scenario where they are all in top shape.

The "general speaking" come from the Armstrong trauma . It doesn't work anymore. Being in yellow in Paris is no more being the best.

As I've explained already, the circumstances matter. But the Tour being by far the biggest race in cycling, by far the biggest stage race, by far the one the stage racers would love to win the most, means winning it is generally speaking the strongest evidence a rider is the best GC rider.

Completely uncontroversial, but Contador hasn't won it lately so the status of the Tour needs to be denigrated.

What do you mean? You don't think he's the best GC rider? Also, I never said he was the best climber.

Well, not necessarily, but who else would you suggest?

Contador and Nibali have a better palmares, but I think it's fairly clear they don't compete at Froome's level right now. And Quintana, who arguably is stronger has lost to him in direct competition twice in the Tour.

The circumstances matter that's right. And there are quite a lot in this Tour hence you can't draw any conclusion. Little evidence once you know Froome was average in this Tour bar one stage where he was strong, and today weak.

The Tour being the biggest race doesn't mean anything. Giro 2011 Contador was much stronger than Evans Tour 11', Vuelta 2012 Contador / Rodriguez stronger than Wiggins Tour 2012 , Vuelta 2014 injured Contador on par with Nibali Tour 2014. Not speaking of the rest of the season.

Contador and Nibali weren't at their best this TDF. Of course they can't compete with Froome if they're not in peak form. In top shape they would definitely be at his level. I'm not sure Froome would win against them in that case.

(I read "currently" as "these days", not as "this TDF")

Nibali lost in direct competition as well. But not Contador, he comes out of the winning Giro, beat Froome at the Vuelta and plenty of times last year when he was on equal terms. Not the case this year, simple as that.

Froome winning margin in this Tour is lower than the time Quintana lost stage 2 . So I don't know what you mean by "they can't compete at Froome's level right now".
