Froome is slowly winning the hearts of cycling fans, this was really legendary stuff. I'm out of words, wow...

What a brilliant rider he has become, he's complete.
Pity about the rabbits and the boa.

I'm not following you on that one, what happened?
As a boy, Chris Froome had two unusual pets: a pair of pythons. They needed feeding, and their meals had to be alive. Mice at first, then rats. But as they grew they needed something more filling. So he raided the rabbit hutches in the kindergarten across the road.

“Young children would arrive at the class next day and their little baby bunny rabbits would be gone,” he wrote in last year’s autobiography, The Climb. The rabbits would squeal as the snakes tucked in, he recalled. “I felt like intervening and stopping it. But the pythons had to be fed and it was my responsibility.”

Not trying to defend him, but I'm sure you were perfect in your younger years. And it sure is relevant to his performances on the bike.
It's relevant to him "winning the hearts of cycling fans", which is what I was responding to.

If only his competition was Contador (in his prime, uncertain if he was that now) and not quintana. Would have been brilliant

Froome is really entertaining but it's just not in me to root for the biggest favorite in any scenario *

Vuelta TT last year is pretty much identical in both length and parcours.

You can expect Froome to put in a similar time to Dumoulin, so you're looking at about 1'30[/quote]

Two different stage profiles (La Vuelta was almost flat), with approx same lengths. Nairo have become a good TT in the last year, and lost 1:30 with a Dumoulin who was prepared for La Vuelta while Nairo have had Le Tour on his back. I guess 1minute at most will gain Froome over Nairo.

He's gone from being a boring watt-machine to being possibly the 2nd most exciting rider in the peloton after Sagan.

Long may it continue.

When he attacked the best riders of the world in 2008 in la Croix de fer and when he attacked in Bolognia in that break in the Giro he was the same exciting than he is now. But now he is an experience rider with a big team, then he was just an amateur learning cycling.

That's a fair point.

I mentioned it in a comment in the stage thread, with the power he's showing he could take a fair amount of time in the TT on Nairo. Will have to double check the profile but the climbs aren't relatively steep (5%-6%) and there are over 20k's of flat straightish roads.

agreed.

froome is aiming everything on that ITT.

if the power he has demonstrated is there that day, tour will be over.

Quintana has shown no Spine in this tour, no attacks, didn't want to work to follow froome on descent and then bitches about the stage after he looses time.

Looking good for Froomey

I think Froome and Sky have actually got a bit bored of winning tours de france the 'sky way' after 3 victories, and they are racing in this new bold fashion as a sort of challenge to themselves rather than just for strategic reasons. I wouldnt be surprised if Quintana ends up winning this tour because Froome may burn himself out with these daring attacks for comparitively small time gains but it almost doesnt matter. Froome has won more fans in the last week than he has since he's been winning tours and many people might think he's a greater rider now, even if he loses the tour, than he would be if he won this tour in the same way as before

You think Froome is the favourite? My assumption is that Quintana is, since Quintana has in the past shown the ability to knock down most of the time wall Froome has built up over the first two weeks. And since both get older each Tour they face each other, logically one year Quintana will knock Froome's wall down.

Well, age does not matter in cycling as much as the time cyclist finds his true peak, in which case most cyclists tend to have similar career spans. And Froome has few 2/3 years before he hits slightly decline imho, he found his talent quite late in career :p

I doubted Froome before, but 35 seconds already and with the power he has shown, he should dominate TT, if he can get over 2 minutes gap before 3rd week it's gonna be pretty fun.
