I guess the real problem is he has hit the limit in terms of salary so everything he wins beyond the Tour has very limited utility. Then making 50k here and there in criteriums is a nice bonus even if suboptimal for a Vuelta win.
Yes, after all making 500k more on a 5mln salary is more important than winning big races.

Crits might just be a decent way to keep your body going while at the same time not being too taxing considering such races are very short. I have no idea about that, but I could Imagine its not that horrible for you afterall, trying to balance resting and racing/training out in the aftermath of a taxing Tour.

That said there can't any doubt that it its 100% optimal, but who knows, maybe he genuinely likes it.

From what I've heard crits are pretty bad because they're much more than just one hour of moderate racing. All the appearance stuff, the travel, and the fact that they're usually pretty late in the evening makes them somewhat disturbing.

isnt it what we want? Froome not winning big races.
so you should welcome him doing those late-night crits instead of resting and training well for the Vuelta ;)

Nought to do with being bitter, although I'm not surprised you think that. After all, anything I write about Froome gets shot down by you immediately. Obsessed much?
I'm kinda shocked a Froome fanboy would suggest he cares more about money than wins.
Shameful if true, but I doubt it.

Vuelta is always an afterthought. To anyone but Valverde probably. At least Froome sort of respects the race.

Anyway, maybe Froome thinks he can do it both. Cash in in the post-Tour crits and win the Vuelta. He only lost last year because his team was ***. His form was fine, and that was with Rio in between.

So no real need to forego any crits. It's the rest of his team that should step up.

Good point, completely forgot he almost won the vuelta last year despite finding the form to get olympic bronze in between the tour and vuelta too

Thats 2 vueltas and 1 tour froome has potentially lost because of his team (the tour is v debatable on that course but the vueltas sure as hell arent)

Well after all that Froome-criterium discussion in here, he's currently at a two week training camp in the Alps.
Really?
I just yesterday saw him on social media with his son..
