Nobody forced anybody to pay him the salary he is earning, therefore whatever he is earning is deserved (at least from the employer's perspective).
He does not need to admit anything to anybody. His form is what it is and it looks to me like he is really trying to improve although, it seems to me, he does not really need to do it from a financial point of view.

No, he doesn’t need to admit anything to anyone. However, the fact that he doesn’t means people will be put off by him, point out the absurdity of his pronouncements, and generally mock him. Then some folks will whine about that fact here.

I wonder if those of us who have set goals, have achieved big things, and done it legitimately are the ones most disposed to mocking him.

Froome is damned if he wins, damned if he doesn't. It's two sides of the same coin by the same subset of cycling fans still upset he was so good before the crash. Overall, he is never not going to be one of the greatest GT racers of all time, so his achievements are still just that. He got paid a contract at his market value at a moment in his recovery unknown by ISN if it would be fulfilled with a GT win, so to think anyone is being tricked is absurd, it's business, cycling is a business with success and failure based on risk and for ISN it's not necessarily a project based on sponsorship exposure so it is was it is.
I tihnk it's correct Woods get leadership, Froome can target La Vuelta and 2024 Tour, he clearly loves bike racing just like Cavendish, the win is not why riders like that love racing though imo.

No Vuelta 2023 for Froome because Israel Premier Tech is not going this year. He posted that on his own Insta earlier.

To pretend Froome was worth 5 mill for 5 years in 2020 is actually the absurd position

You say this as if he plays no part in the reaction many cycling fans have to him. I think that's just plain silly. When he became a world-beater, if he didn't insult our intelligence with his nonsensical claims, explanations, protestations, no one would have really reacted that much to him. Same thing now that he's not doing well.

He gets the reaction he does because he's dishonest, absurd, and generally spouting unbelievable nonsense. Not because anyone was ever predisposed to dislike him. I had no opinion of Froome when he first emerged, I'd never heard of him. As an English-speaking rider on an English speaking team, I was probably predisposed to like him. Then he started in with the gaslighting.

Israel-Premier Tech have simply decided to become a semi serious cycling team. Derek Gee showed the way during the Giro, i.e. there's potential there & obviously some talent in the squad.

Froome & Fuglsang meanwhile are the sort of signings which got the team relegated & ironically with regards to Froome the reason why he can't ride the Vuelta later in August is because his team didn't get an invite, i.e. as a WT team that wouldn't have been a problem... but he was directly implicated in the sh*t UCI points tally of his team for two years which has led to their absence from the third GT this year. Oops. But that's sport.

I'm more interested in Froome's comment regarding the 'equipment' issues he complained about tbh because that's the sort of stuff which should really p*ss off his employer (& the sponsors).

I don't think this guy has many friends left in cycling right now (GCN maybe?)... so burning bridges with his own team sounds like a really bad idea.

I think many people here are mocking him not for the fact that he is still riding and trying to get back to acceptable fitness (which I think is admirable, even though some might disagree, given the amount of money he gets), but rather for his communication. Every few months he is again supposed to be at top level, solemnly announcing it on his social media, but then when the results turn out way worse than expected he comes around with another excuse instead of realizing or admitting that he is not the rider anymore that he used to be. First it was long-term issues after his crash, then it was missing the hard miles, then it was getting sick at the wrong time, now all of the sudden it was the equipment... It's been three years since his return to racing with no significantly positive trend in results, but still he feeds us with the same narrative of his imminent great comeback.

The reason IPT got relegated was because of 2020 when they did not have a WT level squad.

Even if Froome were back to his 2018 level, I don't think he would stand a chance against Vingegaard, Pogacar, Roglic, or Remco. Peak 2013 Froome could compete probably with Roglic and Remco but not Vingegaard and Pogacar, IMO. His train has disappeared over the horizon, and it's a shame he didn't have a champion's exit, but I can't fault him for making a living.
