Hi all, thanks for your concern. This ongoing aftershock sequence is pretty weird. It was actually a 5.8 then a 6.0 but we are getting kinda used to it. Still not much fun though. Only very minor injuries reported this time. None of the construction workers were injured in the buildings being demolished, which is good news.
Pretty miserable for people on the eastern side of town who have the dreaded liquefaction again - that evil fetid sludge will be with them for Christmas. All good at our house though. Power is out to about 25,000 houses out east, but they are expecting to reconnect it within a few hours.
More rockfall in the hill suburbs too. A number of properties were recently evacuated and it will be interesting to see if the authorities get any vindication. Some people were not pleased with the decision. So far we have water on and no boil notice so hopefully the water won't get any poo in it this time! Overall, this one isn't as bad as September 2010, February 2011 or June 2011.
Lots of little aftershocks rolling through so it will probably be a bumpy night. As a friend of mine said "bloody hell, merry Christmas."
