Kirby is a brilliant comentator. I feel sorry for him, offers me plenty of material for the forum with his fantasy cycling history eg "theres Joaquim Rodriguez, he did well in the Tour of Flanders" and he gives it his ALL when calling a sprint. He must dope just to keep his lungs going for that long the way he shouts without taking a breath for the last 3k.
I agree. Kirby is good really. It's easy to criticise inaccuracies from an armchair when quite often the screens these guys are watching are not as clear as we see at home (plus they're hampered by inaccurate timings and info from the french feed and radio tour).

Kirby comes up with a lot of dry, sarcastic stuff which appeals to me. However he missed a great one last week when reading out a tweet; it was from Toby Lerone!

I'm not really sure what the point of a page long list of all the races that have already taken place is. I keep seeing them on the this thread and wonder what they are for. Am I missing something? Surely it makes more sense just to list upcoming races.

Takes no time at all actually as it's an ongoing updated post in the thread. I'm watching the coverage anyway so easy to edit in the info as it goes along.

I agree with the above Lemond point.

I find his pieces to camera pretty painful to watch.

However, having to listen to that voice for hours on end in commentary would be unbearable.

It's like he's got a permanently blocked throat. Is there something lodged there?

If so Greg, cough it up!

I was able to watch much of the TdF on French eurosport, with Alexandre, Jacky, and Richard. The first two are pretty straightforward. Richard's accent comes out when he gets excited, and he's often funny "à l'insu de son plein gré".

What does everyone think of Le Mond on Tour?
Much better now Stephano Berbanino(Or whoever he is) has been replaced by Ashley House. The Berbanino feller was annoying.
Ashley House looks like Ramsay Bolton, was afraid something bad might happen to Greg during Le Tour

He reminds me of Jake Humphreys on BT Sport.

Watched Poland on british ES and altho Kirby rambles sometimes, I really do like the pairing of him and Backstedt. Kirby obviously doesnt know everything about cycling and he uses some phrases way too much, but he is kinda chill to listen to. Backstedt is nothing special really, but he is a good commentator.

Backstedt is humble in a way that Kelly isn't.Despite his permanently blocked nose, what he says is worth listening to, especially if he is doing a cobbled classic, which unfortunately they never give to him. Kelly is knowledgeable, but if I have the choice I watch races on Rai, especially the Giro. Even better if Cassani is commentating, that guy knows basically everything

During the spring he kept using the phrase "dirty great big" to describe things as diverse as roundabouts, clouds, sprints and corners. He also uses the phrase "I'll be bound", which I imagine nobody else has used since the early 1800s.

Carlton mentioned three natinal parks near Bukowina. He asked Magnus which one he'd choose to go to. He didnt know. Carlton named one he'd go to. The reply was really. Then silence.
Just brilliant!

I find all the commentor's a bit rubbish but the worst is def Phil Liggett, his worshipping still of LA is cringeworthy and not to mention getting evertything wrong!
Kirby / Kelly do irritate me but can be amusing in an embarrasing kinda way and CK's reactions to certain events inspired my user name
I enjoyed LeMond on tour a lot.

The ticker has an option to engage today but its accuracy ebbs and flows I'll be bound.

Lemond was painful to watch during the Tour, especially compared to the job Flecha did during the Giro.

I'm not impressed. Carlton's sense of humour is dry sometimes (mostly) and I just cannot stand it. Him getting excited over tiny things is just annoying. And tiday with Brian it was made worse by Smith just emphasizing the fact that road positioning was important as crashes like the one shown happen all the time. We know you've told us every time a crash in these races happen.

Brian Smith is an odd commentator. Half the time he sounds really stressed out, which is probably because his job with MTN means he is literally texting the MTN staff what to do when he's not commentating. Obvious conflict of interest.
