Is it my imagination or has Declan Quigley definitely improved?

I would say he has. As context, I has previously enjoyed him doing the Tour Series on ITV4 however when he replaced Harmon for the 2013 Giro, he was IMO massively out of his depth. He didn't know enough of the riders. Since then though, very gradually, he has built up the knowledge and now seems more relaxed and comfortable in the role. The numbers speak for themselves - he is now Eurosport's 2nd most used commentator after Kirby. I assume this is because Rob Hatch has so many other commitments but it is giving DQ more work in the sport and thus more knowledge.

I find all the commentor's a bit rubbish but the worst is def Phil Liggett, his worshipping still of LA is cringeworthy and not to mention getting evertything wrong!
Kirby / Kelly do irritate me but can be amusing in an embarrasing kinda way and CK's reactions to certain events inspired my user name
I enjoyed LeMond on tour a lot.

Liggett is dreadful, his defence of LA when it was obvious to everyone bar him that he was guilty was a shocking error of judgement for someone who has been involved in cycling all his life,it should have procluded him from any further work commentating IMO.

To call it a "witchhunt" against LA and to also describe USADA as "a nefarious local drugs agency" is staggering.

Kirby is head and shoulders above Liggett and Sherwin. I'm in the US and have gone to the trouble of buying a VPN just so I can watch Eurosport and not ever have to hear those other two again.

I like Quigley and Backstedt but it was amazing listening to them commentate on Breschel winning stage 3.

They kept on talking about Gogl being in the lead break. I was sure it was Breschel. And they had enough time (around 20km, with Breschel doing a lot of work and his number visible from the back at times) to atone for the error. But they called Gogl all the way to the line, until when "Winner Matti Breschel (DEN)" flashed up on the screen.

I should say, I would make LOADS of mistakes commentating. Far more than any of the Eurosport commentators. But I would have thought that Breschel was on the list of maybe 10 to 20 riders to watch out for that day.

Wait, what? The thought Breschel was Gogl during the Vejle stage? How did that happen?
If it had been the other way around I could kinda understand; thinking it was the guy who'd already won multiple times on that climb, then:
"HOLY MOLY! It was the stagiare!"
But this. It's so stupid it's almost impressive.
Why did they think it was Gogl.

On the other hand, on the Århus-stage they* were able to rightly deduct that when Guldhammer attacked it was not in fact Michael Olson. As they so nicely put it.
"That's a Cult-rider. There is no Trefor-BlueWater rider in this lone break."

*At least I think we're talking about the same commentators. It was an English Eurosport feed posted by MTN.

With so many top notch experts of all things cycling and pro racing commenting here on the CN forums there's no one who is worthy of praise. No one is capable of telling them anything they don't already know in a way that doesn't offend their lofty expectations.

That's ridiculous.

Just noticed that Vuelta coverage this week doesn't start till 1500 (BST), so only the last 90 minutes. Is that because of the World Athletics?

Good to hear Tony Gibb on the US Pro challenge last night. shame he doesn't get more races. Presumably he's based in The US or something?

personally, i think Kirby is the worst of the lot... tour of poland him going on and on and on about the damn gps timing being wrong...

maybe he pisses me off so much because he reminds me of my dad though

You are absolutely correct, NBC didn`t get it.

I find all the Euro sport commentary team highly irritating. However, today Dan Lloyd was co-presenting on the Vuelta and the other day I heard Matt Stephens commentating. Both are ex professional riders and now can be found on GCN (look at their Youtube channel, it's brilliant). They provided excellent, calm and informative commentary in contrast to the normal hysteria that pervades the Eurosport races. Get rid of the usual presenters and just let Matt and Dan do it!

Everyone hears you apart from Eurosport - Kirby must have signed a lifetime contract with them - only explanation.

Dan Lloyd has done a brilliant job commentating on the Vuelta, it's a shame he was only covering for Sean Kelly who will be back on today I think.
