So... He thought the guy with the surname Henao wearing regular Sky kit, was the same as the other guy named Henao who was leading the race, and therefore wearing the yellow jersey?
How do you even make such a mistake?

I think it was lack of thought! Watching it back, it's perhaps more of a clumsy transition - Seb Henao rolls in and he uses that as a springboard to go 'back to Henao' and his duel with Contador.

5. Reinhardt Janse Van Rensburg
6. Vasil Kiryienka
7. Louie Meintjes

My goddess! What a team!
You've got some of the names wrong, I'm afraid.

1. Si Clarke Who Is On Stellar Form And Would Have Won Milan-San Remo
2. The Omnipresent Sebastian Reichenbach
3. The Little Colombian Darwin Atapuma
4. Steve Cummings
5. Reinhardt One Of The Janse Rensburg Brothers
6. Big Engine Vaail Kiryienka
7. Little Louie Meenkes Yes That Is How You Pronounce It
8. Tom-Jelte Slagter
9. The Little Colombian Julien Arredondo

Ha ha ..love both these posts

Can I add its
4. Steve Cummings ...he is a great powerhouse

And of course Cadel who KIrby says still manges to influence races and be a shining light for BMC riders from afar

Riders Kirby would throw in a bin

1. All of Cofidis...but especially Nacer Bouhanni who boxes his way to victory
2 All of Lampre even Menkees who left Dimension Data who were developing him and well ...there you go
3 Pierre Rolland
4. Bertie ( who he half grudgingly admires but never shows any passion at his wining) who has had his issues
5. Pinot who is making his boy Reichenbach lose out on wining races by working for the leader
6. Aru who is always miserable looking
7. Nibali who is making Aru miserable
8 Ryder Hesejdal who not where he used to be when Kirby witnessed his triumph at Giro 2012 ..what a day
9 Any non British SKY riders except Kiryenkia

Disgraceful and embarrassing commentary today by them both. OK Contador wasn't on screen until late but the fact that they didn't mention him for about 25 minutes after Henao started whilst talking about a Colombian 1/2 is beyond belief...every rider in between mentioned...

I wonder if anyone else heard Kirby's slip of the tongue yesterday: "when Thibaut Pinot gets him in shite".

Eurosport did well today. Don't know how Rob Hatch managed the whole 7 hours without swapping out with Quigley at any point

Is that sarcasm? Because they all swapped at different times.

Kirby is very bad all-around, but his worst quality is that he always has to SCREAM and go on for minutes at a time about MOTORBIKES (or cars) GETTING IN THE WAY, every single time it happens, and a lot of times when nothing happens at all.

They were most certainly swapping in and out :D

I do think the commentary was good today. Although, my standard for good commentary is pretty low, I just need to not be enraged by it :)

I agree. They also managed to call most of the riders correctly which makes a refreshing change.

Fair play to Sean Kelly as he also called the winner 10k from the finish.

Was easier to correctly call riders names in PR seeing the coverage was much better than Pais Gascoigne. Actually thought Hatch did a poor job in identifying riders in the leading two or three groups. Was too fixated on the leading riders.

I didn't watch it on British Eurosport, but personally I had problems identifying some of the riders in the Cancellara group as well (Sinkeldam, Petit, Gaudin, Naesen and so on), so to be fair, some on screen graphics would have helped.

Hatch did pretty well, I don't think he mis-named any riders. He didn't name some of the guys in the Cancellara/Sagan group but in fairness that was hard for him. Although you're right that it is easier than Itzulia, they did a good job. I always like Hatch commentating because it reminds me of the Giro

I like Hatch as a commentator. Just providing a counterbalance to the histrionics about Kirkby
Hatch is a solid commentator though he could have spent more time identifying riders in group 2 or 3

Definitely a refreshing change to have Rob Hatch instead of Kirby. One line that caught my ear was "Yaroslav Popovych is a colourful character who was top 3 in the Giro in 2003 - when things were very different..." Not too tricky to read between the lines there!

I was watching the 2013 Tirreno stage with Porto Sant'Elpidio the other night and Hatch said the same thing about Cunego.

Basque Tour - Magnus Backstedt asks Kirby 'have you any idea why Etixx Quickstep are riding on the front ? ' Kirby hesitates and says 'why dont you tell us Magnus'

WHY IS THIS IDIOT COMMENTATING ? he has no clue about racing - all he does is identify the riders on screen from the rider list he has in front of him.

There were pages and pages of discussion on this forum about why EQS were on the front for no very good reason. Hard to blame Kirby for expressing doubt.

The question about Quickstep is not the issue - the point is, that Kirby had no idea or any input as to why a team would ride on the front.

Kirby is perfectly capable of making up idiotic reasons had he wanted to. As bad as he is - and he is really, really bad - he was answering that he too had no idea why QS would be on the front.

He's awful, but let's not call him out for the one time he actually got something right!

so why didnt he say he had no idea ? or even offer a few explanations. ?

we are the laughing stock of europe due to this fool - he even bragged the other day that Greipel had spoken to him, Greipel said he had heard about Kirby....the English commentator - egomaniac Kirby presumed it was a compliment - its because Eurosport UK are known for the idiotic, joke of a commentator.

He did say he had no idea; Backstedt stated his confusion as to why EQS were working, and Kirby agreed. He knows why a team would ride on the front, just not then - and I still have no idea who EQS were riding for then. Backstedt wasn't asking Kirby to explain the fundamental principle of racing bikes, he was asking him to explain the situation.
