On Sunday, Kirby felt lone breakaway was going to win. Kept citing the 1'07 gap as reason. Apologised when peloton swamped him, stating that tech problems giving wrong info.Really, really struggled (as did Kelly) with reality that the time gap was to yellow jersey, not the chasing group.

Considering Sagan himself won without realising it, I think we can forgive Kirby for a momentary mistake that wasn't really his fault and he very quickly corrected.

It's ITV4 I'm struggling to listen to. Thank goodness for the change, but Ned Boulting really, really needs a voice coach.

No indeed. Wallonie looks like the next stage race. There is another junior soccer tournament so perhaps there isn't room.

This could become an increasing problem given all the recent announcements about rights acquisitions. Unless they are planning to increase the number of TV channels you wonder whether they are planning to drive more people towards the player to boost their revenues.

If they make the player full HD I ain't got no problem to pay 10-20€ for it to watch it either on my MacBook or my TV screen. But so far Eurosport HD is Sky only at least here in Germany. And I ain't gonna book that stupid Sky package, since I ain't gonna waste my cash for simply getting Eurosport in HD!

Although the normal Eurosport version, the former Eurosport international, technically broadcasts like it was still 1999! Apparently their bitrate is ~3000 and it looks even worse since the winter relaunch.

Do any TDF broadcasters mix their audio to where the commentators don't completely drown out the ambient noise? On Eurosport, even when going through a crowd of cheering fans on a mountain, you can barely hear them at all... ruins the atmosphere for me personally.

Does anyone know what the time delay is for Eurosport player compared with the TV pics ?

Pretty sure it's the same...

Reckon its about 3 to 5 minutes behind.
Should I just split the difference ? :)

For HD I would have expected somewhere between 30 secs (similar to Sky Go) and 2 minutes (similar to other subscription channels such as NFL Gamepass)

Oh wow. All I can say is I switched from Eurosport player to the TV today and Eurosport player was ahead by about 200m, and not only that but events on the player happen at the same time as people respond to them on here.

Ok cheers for that - sounds pretty good

A moment of silence for us Portuguese fans who had to cope live with a bitter Sérgio Paulinho rancorous about not having been selected for the Tour squad.

''With my current form, I think I had a place in the team''.

if im not mistaken these players are really streams so it will depend on your connection. mine buffers all the time on my phone and initially when connected from home.

Found it rather refreshing when Harris-Bass was commentating on his own yesterday, while Kirby and Kelly had problems with sound at the finish. I have nothing against either Kirby, Kelly or any other eurosport commentator, but if they had half an hour to an hour breaks (then K and K switch to H-B) on these full six/seven hour coverages of stages, then it would refresh the ears slightly.

Kirby did that on Eurosport's Le Mans coverage, and it works.

Every stage is being covered live and in full next year isn't it? For Paris-Roubaix this year, ES did a good rotating cast of commentators early on in the race, with Quigley, Hatch and Kelly rotating. I assume they'll do something similar? They'll still need a man at home in case the live commentary goes down the pan though - it could be Kelly, Kirby and Quigley on the road and Jono HB back in a studio as back-up.

I heard this mentioned a few weeks ago but I've been unable to find any proof that it'll happen. There does seem to be a year to year increase on the numbers of stages shown in full though, 6 this year.

24 hours of commentating continually is a bit much, but I have watched the race coverage myself and it really did work well. I think that was several years ago though, and David Harmon was doing all three grand tours, bits of Le Mans, Dakar rally and other cycle races
