Gilbert must be the best expert Eurosport ever had. At least the best since Virenque in France. Phil's observations and intakes are always spot on!

Pleasure to have him around
Didn't watch on ES, but the races I have watched the going back to Phil was always a letdown, not necessarily cause he was bad, he just didn't really add anything to the race cause of where he was watching

I totally agree. And he does it all from the back of a motorbike just to add to the multitasking.

The most cringeworthy interaction on Eurosport was Kirby "interviewing/welcoming" Gilbert on his arrival at the channel, replete with obscure vocabulary and oblique references to English culture that even few Brits could have followed. It was painful to listen to. And I find Kirby quite endearing! In fact, this is a pattern I have seen before. Where Eurosport allow Kirby to interact with top sportspeople, he seems to behave oddly. It is not surprising that he is rarely allowed to interview riders. I think of him as an accomplished continuity commentator "filling the gaps" with anecdotes about geology or cloud formation.

The way I read this is it's listing all the commentary pairings we've had so far... whilst those upcoming races are all 'tbc'.

Maybe Eurosport fired everyone.

Carlton at his annoying worse yesterday. Brabantse Pijl a 1.1 midweek race paired with Dan equals maximum flippant Carlton. I don't want to be continually mean to him as I'm in no doubt he is a great guy in real life, however after a long day at work I just want to catch up on the race and not cringe every 15 seconds.

Carlton bingo.... in the 5 minutes i watched I heard a "chosen son" and a "re-gather themselves". Also he went into a verbose monologue about the local topography around Overijse haha.

always gets a bit hyper when he catches a glimpse of Si Clarke

Kirby was embarrassing when the women's podium was up. Basically couldn't pronounce Shirin van Anrooij's name correctly and just mumbled it.
Kirby is just embarrassing full stop!

I get the CK show is subjective, some love it, some hate it, but in BP and again in Amstel today he reached new levels of incompetence in terms of reporting on riders, teams and race situations. He is totally clueless, so much so that Dan Lloyd had to correct him several times on air in BP.

Destroys the enjoyment of a race for me every single time.

Absolutely, wish there was some option that the commentary could mute every time he speaks, yet we could still hear co-commentator. I watched on mute again today. Just like Flanders and I more or less didn't watch Pais Vasco because of him. Some commentators are just bad, Kirby is the double threat of bad and super annoying. Kirby should be on the Jose Been schedule.

Had the displeasure to listen to Carlton Kirby for about 20 minuttes today, it always astounds me how little knowledge he has of cycling and how much fundemental things he gets wrong all the time when he has been commentating for years.

I'm pretty sure it took at least 20 minutes of the race broadcast to tell us who was in the leading group..... Just all the top favourites btw.

It's almost cruel giving CK the classics. He never knows where the riders are on the course, what the up coming climbs are, which ones are notorious etc. It really makes the race feel flat as he is just waffling on about some irrelevant Shite.

Surely his colleagues understand he is marmite.
