yes and no, because whilst the Beeb might have been "free" their coverage of these types of events of late has been flippin awful, they seem to have lost the art of covering sports as sports, and want to editorialise everything or turn it into like a glossy magazine feature.

and long before TNT tried the hey lets drop one of our commentators totally unsuited to this sport to talk nonsense, the Beeb have had a football commentator, who is even more obsessed by stats than Hatch, doing all their cycling comms.

whilst Ill miss Boardmans input, I wont miss the rest of it, even though we know TNT will likely margianalise alot of the coverage, but again the Beeb have for years been chucking it on a low bitrate red button/web only version too

A recent survey by Cycling Weekly revealed the stark reality: 71% of respondents told us they watched the Tour on ITV. Of those 1,273 people, 1,120 said they would not subscribe to TNT Sports to watch the race live in 2026 (and almost half said they’d never paid to watch cycling on TV). That’s 88%, an overwhelming majority of TV-watching cycling fans in the UK.

If they keep their word and refuse to stump up for a TNT subscription, they won’t be watching the Tour next summer. What then for the future of the sport? It’s a disturbing prospect.
