That would be interesting but that project appears to have not advanced beyond the dream stage.

- Just reading this article. Super guy. Speaks of watching Lance and talking of Jani. True sportsman is our Alberto.

The two-time Tour de France champion said he began to suffer from the flu last Saturday, and taking part in the event would not be helpful towards securing his third Tour crown.
"It's a pity, but I'm not able to attend the Spanish Championship because I have a touch of the flu. I had wanted to defend the jersey, but unfortunately I am not in good condition and I can't do anything about it,” explained Contador

From his blog I found nothing that Astana gave their word that Szmyd could get it. They only said he should discuss it with Bert and then Bert denied. Why is he so annoyed? He helped Bert a lot before? Or Bert will give them a win when every one in peloton asked for a win at anytime?
kurtinsc said:I'm assuming "I'm not in good condition" is some kind of translation thing, where he actually said something along the lines of "I don't feel well today"?
Because to an english speaker... that would be an odd thing to say leading up to the Tour.
Publicus said:You need the original Spanish to know for sure. He did 4.5 hours yesterday, and says that he had a long day today in the mountains (so I assume 6 hours), so I think he's probably fine--can't imagine you can do 4+ hours on the bike and have the flu.
And if I recall correctly, Martinelli said he wasn't doing the time trial just after the conclusion of the Dauphine, so this may all be pre-text (i.e., bullshyte) to excuse him for not being there (i.e., wants to work on building his form more).
