They also know, however, that having Cavendish AND Contador would be even better. Maybe it costs money, but it will probably shift enough bikes to level up.

The big question really is not on the Sky side of things, but more that they already have a Spanish superstar with shady history riding one of their bikes, and is Contador's global reach relative to Valverde's enough to justify the expenditure given that they already cover the base of Contador's national market.

And that bit in bold is all that matters. You can't compare Pinarello as a company with the likes of Specialized. Pinarello's turnover is about E35m. It can't afford to give out E1m personal sponsorships like Specialized, who are ten times the size.

Fastest man on two wheels vs drug cheat - that's how it looks to most people.

Fastest man on 2 wheels over 5 seconds vs Fastest man on 2 wheels where it matters.

Also the Birtish public are so ignorant they think Cav is a doper anyway cos hes a cyclist.

The rest of europe think Contador was hard done in his trial. Well the French don't but who cares about them:p

Most of Europe don't know the facts of the case one way or the other. They don't even know the name of the drug. They just know that he was DQ'd and banned.

It mattered at the end of the WC didn't it? and at the end of 20 tdf stages...

If Contador was British Sky would probably be a lot more interested in him, doping history or not. Don't kid your self in thinking otherwise... I'm sure Sky could do a little PR crap about how everyone deserves a second chance and blablabla...

I like Garmin's approach a lot more than Sky's approach then. :)

At least they gave guys like Thomas Dekker a second chance and I hope he gets monitored closely there.
