killer instinct! That's the main difference between Andy and Alberto.

Bert really likes winning & always takes his chances. I think Schleck likes the idea of winning but doesn't have the courage to make the decisive move. Shame really because Schleck climbs very well & has a good engine.

This whole Leopard Trek thing was an error. He's effectively his own Director Sportif which means there is no one to kick him the pants when he starts acting silly.

Gogo Contador!!! Im not a Contador fan (not a hater either, just neutral normally) but I so hope he wins this tour!

I dont wan't to see another asterisk next to the winner of the le tour. Only thing holding me back from cheering Contador on.

Bravo Alberto

Sitting here half asleep (it's hot in the south of Spain) and suddenly we all woke up to see a brave attack and the Schleck duo looking... wet. (Also spotted the best road writing so far. Anyone else see it? It said: "Lance Who?")

I saw it. Nice one. Is there a chalkbot this year?

Right from the word go I wanted to see him cream the Radioshack team singlehandedly but they fell by the wayside. Nothing has changed from me wanting him to crush everybody else on offer.

He is capable of what HTC do on the flat and rub everybodies noses in it but on the climbs.

Today's showing by AC clearly indicated that aside from his difficulties during first 2 weeks of the TDF, that he is coming around and can fire a few shots of his own, meaningful one's too.

With the next 4 stages set up for him to attack some more, he is giving the TDF 2011 edition what it desperately needs, PANACHE! If AC is within Cadel by 30 seconds, bring out the Yellow for this man from Spain for the 4th time. AC's ability to attack, compose, attack again, and again, and again is what makes everyone as a fan enjoy cycling. Chapeau to AC, been waiting 2 weeks for someone to show some hutzpah.

So, does that mean you root for Frank "I swear that Fuentes payment wasn't for drugs" Schleck or Cadel "I swear I'm the cleanest rider on a super-dirty team" Evans?

Or maybe you're going for Voeckler. Fair enough.

Either way, Contador and Saxo Bank are going to finally make this a race, and I love them for it.

+1

I hesitate to consider a rider in his situation a "true champion." He put on a show today, but let's not be prisoners of the moment.

He's a true champion. He races to win. Full stop.

As for today, I'm definitely excited about the development, but I'm not reading any more into than it was an effective day for him. He could just as well have a bad day tomorrow or during one of the Alpine stages, so I'm going to hold my enthusiasm in reserve.

I know this is the Contador re-appreciation thread, but I would be remiss if I did not also acknowledge and celebrate Cuddles. He's really impressed me with his fighting spirit. He's not wheelsucking to victory, which barring a collapse in the Alps (which I don't foresee), he's going to win his first GT (and it will be well deserved).

That's what I've always admired about Contador. He enters every race to win it. It's never just a prep or training ride. He has the fighting spirit of a true cycling hero.

A certain Lance Armstrong, winner of seven consecutive Tours, who also returned to help Alberto win his only clear and undisputed TDF victory ever. It's true Bertie has shown remarkable strength in the Giro and Vuelta, but has never overcome the likes of Pantani, Ullrich, Vino, Voeckler and Basso at their best.

Kinda hard to do when Pantani was death while Contador was laying in the hospital, no?

And he did already climb better than fatty Ullrich in 2006. Vino? You do know he got beaten hard at the Tour of 2007? Basso? Overrated as hell. And he's ahead of Basso you know ;) Despite of having lost a lot of time in a crash.

Besides Armstrong never helped anyone but him self. And why wouldn't 2010 be clear and undisputed? Schleck didn't wait for Contador at stage 3. Contador merely returned the favour 12 stages later.

Ps: Rasmussen would have never won the Tour if it wasn't for the breakaway. He only took 35 real seconds on Contador in a climb during the whole Tour. Contador made that up in the time trials.
