I wouldn't put it past Aru.

Contador will just sit on his wheel, for this strategy to work you need more than 1 threat that is willing to make use of this.

Aru may switch into Pantani mortal combat mode on Finestre! If Contador has any kind of weakness that day, he could pay a real big check.

Ne needs a team that bombs the TTT and is able to create destruction in the key stages. I think they have very good riders for both.
They don't need train-riding like at Sky ( Nieve, Porte, Kennaugh, Roche, Thomas) but a good overall team - which they have - and a couple of riders who can shake up the peleton like Majka Kiserlovski and Rogers/Basso.

1-2 teammates accelerate out of nowhere and Majka lits the fire. Let's see who from Sky can follow Majka if he is in good form.

Majka must be careful to not drop Contador too, just saying

They can do it 2013 style. Both protected and play the game. Kreuziger was (or better would have been if you consider the form of Alberto that year) a great help that year. I'm confident that Majka can be at least as strong, probably stronger.

Of course Porte and Nieve are great doms. But I don't think they can stay in the GC. Porte has to prove his value during a GT...let alone 2.
Majka was 2nd to 3rd best climber during the Tour last year after doing a solid Giro. I expect another little step. He is a future GT winner. Of course that's my opinion. I can not speak for other users, esp. those who attack me because I state my opinion.
Sky might be too strong...everything can happen...but I'm confident.

So, they're going to meet at the Tirreno and Catalunya before the Tour?
I think we can expect Andalucia standard of suspense. They'll both want to enter the Tour with an upper hand against each other.

Yeah. Race organisers must be happy. Big chance from the days when all those stage races were much more meaningless because Lance didn't do them or they weren't indicative of his Tour form

It is almost certain Aru is not worst this year he should have got better, he may even challenge Contador, no one knows. Would be nice too see. I really hope he doe turn out to be the next GC contender would be nice to see a new Italian rider contending.

This rivalry continues to build; those mountain top finishers in FEBRUARY: How good were they?!!

Great to have such excellent racing coming our way in both Italy and France this week. Stage racing is not all about grand tours.

It's a good decision! Better rest and restore now and maybe add Pais Vasco after Catalunya.

Could it be that this was planned together with his February form to 'force' Alberto to go too deep too early (whilst still saving Froome)? A long term strategy so that he won't be fresh for the Tour?

Had a feeling this was coming when he tweeted about being ill the other day. No point racing if he is not well. Excessive excercise whilst getting over a chest infection is not fun.

Was really looking forward to part 2 of another great duel but we shall have to wait.

Pete Kennaugh and K?nig most likely

There are also Nieve and Poels though!

Kennaugh is also out. No explanation given (he was also pulled from Strade Bianchi).

Doubt it. Loads of riders are sick at this time of year.

I think it's pretty whateva

Some mistery will be preserved and the forum is much actually most bearable when one is not beating the other

So Quintana should get a 2nd place at Tirreno like last year, I don't think that Nibali or anyone else will have the form to beat him, Alberto should win Tirreno.

This reaks of opportunism a tactical ploy. Froome got the one up in Andalusia, when he was obviously further along in his preparation than he admitted and more focused on winning against Alberto as well. Perhaps, having won, the entire affair was premeditated from before. That is if Chris wins in Spain, then no TA! It's perfect when you really think about it, because until the Tour the two have separate agendas. And here, in light of the Tour, Chris probably has the better approach.

Thus now that Alberto is definitely in better shape, to deny the Spaniard his chance to settle the score, it's better to pull out and take advantage of Alberto doing the Giro to give Chris a chance to remain undefeated this year.

How devious! Sky certainly shows no respect to TA or the fans.
