Why does a 2 year ban only take him to August 2012?

Don't they tack on all the time he was riding while he was appealing?

No. If they would then he would keep the 2011 Giro title for example.

Bertie still listed as winner when I looked? But someone has removed all his results since TdF 2010 on the palmares section of the Contador wiki page- apart from recent San Luis.

Just as a matter of interest- what all races will he now forfeit and who are the rightful winners?

Always a bit messyfor the stats in this situation, but it's better that than to win falsely!!! I take it that his name is simply expunged from the records and there's no need for some poor sod to go through everything to adjust times/points etc which would be a nightmare?

Contador banned for 2 years

Personally, I believe in Contador's innocence, so I'm very disappointed at the announcement. HOWEVER, from cycling's point of view, it'd be a disastrous precedence to exonerate him. Every cyclist with a clenbuterol positive would start quoting Contador's case and blame the food and want the charges dropped or reduced. Then the sport would fall apart and be worse than the old days. So it's the right decision for CAS to ban him to the full extent, as much as I don't like it.

If Contador really ate the wrong beef, then it's a case of bad luck, at the wrong place at the wrong time. While it seems unfair, sometimes we have to accept the consequences of bad luck. That's how life is.

Hey, that guy from San Luis Somos Todos wins a stage.

The worst part about this is that in one fell swoop the Armstrong/Schleck camp has scored monumental victories. Contador is down, Armstrong is "clean and clear" and Andy has his stage race win, finally. What a way to start a week. I'm sick.:(

And it seems as though Alberto's always unlucky.

I suppose.

It just doesn't seem satisfactory that his 2 year ban includes a period where he wouldn't be riding, a period where he was riding, and a period of 6 months when he'll actually be unable to ride.

Given the damage he's done to the sport with these endless appeals (and re-writing of race/stage victories), I would have wanted the ban to be from today to Feb 2014.

Wow never thought this would happen. Can't believe andy is a tdf champion now.

I don't consider Pereiro as Tour Champion and I don't consider Andy as Tour Champion.

=/

the good thing is that in the Vuelta AC will be back! :)

Let this serve as a clear example of how justice is unjust to some.

McQuaid wanted Alberto out for what he had done with the Armstrong issue (lots of money involved in charities, long story) and they came up with the positive because they were after him. Paddie is a frigging jerk***!! I hope he chokes on his own vomit.

What justice is served if you can't prove that someone doped? Fruthermore, can 50 picograms of clenbuterol, 50 picograms for motherfu***** sake!!! be considered doping? NO!! It is not.

What appeals?

Wow, I'm sure Contador feels like quitting right now. Hope he keeps his head on and doesn't let his form go out the window...but, without riding until August (maybe?) his form will suffer reguardless.

Such a shame that the fans in general are the ones that suffer the most.

He can keep on training with his Spanish mates.

Look, the way I see it it's not only Alberto that is being sanctioned, it's all cyclists. Both WADA and the UCI are sending a clear message: Cycling is a business, we are the PIMPS and you are the BíTCHES. Do not question the Establishment because we WILL produce your positive. Even if it isn't doping.

Bad, baaaaaaad day for cycling.
