So one of the main recommendations of the soon to be published independent enquiry report is very likely to be that Team Sky and British Cycling should be cut adrift in perpetuity (and if that's not a recommendation it should be). That shared pharmacy with no admin records looks a bit awkward, right

In the meantime Cookson's telling us that Team Sky and BC have exclusive use of a hotel for an extended period. Doctors an' all no doubt. To repeat, Cookson (one time Team Sky board member and President of BC) is tweeting his approval of this cosy arrangement even as the independent enquiry report is about to be published

Well, in answer to the title of the thread, I don't know if he's worse than McVerbruggen. Its far too early to tell, but I don't understand why he posts up images of himself in Team Sky kit and talks about being with the team when the team is currently embroiled in some pretty stinky allegations. Has the man no common sense?

As long as the money keeps flowing into the sport and into peoples' wage packets then he won't be going anywhere soon, barring some sort of PR disaster engendered by a scandal involving a bug name racer. Its (mainly) about professional sport, not principles and ethics.

I guess he feels he's weathered the recent Wiggins storm just by keeping his head down for a bit. Now he's popped back up in full Sky strip, such is his confidence.

I was posting in the Sky thread years ago that the BC/Sky arrangement is a copy of the USA Cycling/USPS structure. The federation responsible for enforcing the rules is the one responsible for making a winning team.

In this case Sky's value (like USPS) goes beyond the small, dedicated, audience of competitive cyclists. The UCI and ASO did far better this time with lots of British tax dollars spent on UCI events.

I think UCI Presidents look on the position as a stepping stone to the big table of the IOC were serious brown envelopes are won.

I think it will be impossible for the sport to grow. The motors thing will get bigger. Most people who dont follow cycling think they all dope. Soon they will think they all use hidden motors. The sport is in decline.

Agree with both posts above. They look for new sponsorship by going global into new countries and fanbases, but that only holds for so long. They badly need to stop pissing on the traditional cycling countries and longtime loyal fans. This cannot happen with obvious ridiculousness like Dawg and Sky's new GeeeeeeeeeTeeee man coming to a Giro near you.

Sadly it's a very good chance he will have a second term without contest. The incumbent has a distinct advantage of being able to fly around the world and secure votes under the guise of "developing cycling in non-traditional cycling nations". No doubt Cookson has made promises to these nations in return for votes.

Is there no scandal over the Qatar worlds and the non payments to the workers? Not only did the UCI give last year's worlds to a non cycling country with no fans there to watch. They also gave them to a country that hasn't paid the workers at the event. This would be hurtful for most leaders of most organisations but not Cookson.

He is not fit to be in charge of world cycling but he has been involved in sweetener deals and buttering up the right people to guaranteee their votes in the next election so he will probably slip back into position unnoticed. It seems as though the UCI president is a harder job to get out of than it is to get into.

Indeed it does beggar belief, but that doesn't make any money for the UCI so it's not deemed important by Cookson.
