Its not very often.. at all, that this happens.. But the only thing i can say is: I have no words for this.

Well, i have a few. Fantastic day for Denmark. Fantastic day to be in Copenhagen, and fantastic to be a dane today. Yesterday i got my best experience ever.. Today, well - a new best experience.. DANISH GOLD!!!!! To hear the national anthem in the heart of Copenhagen and looking op at Wurtz in the WC jersey.. Huge, just huge.

Still 4 days left with racing, but its already been a huge succes for Denmark with 1 silver and 1 gold. Its saved. Its not only saved, its a huge succes. Fantastic. Hopefully we can get a medal more.

We have just as many medals as Germany and GB, whaaat.. And more than Holland, Belgium etc. Is this a dream?

Tell that to Andrey Tchmil. He rode for like 5 different countries during his career. Soviet Union, Russia, Moldova, Ukraine and Belgium I think. If he also participated in the 1992 olympics he would have ridden for the Unified Team under an olympic flag.

He has always been a Russian, I don't think he has ever identified himself with Ukraine or Moldova, which were just a countries he lived in after a dissolution of the Soviet Union.

"People are cynical when I talk about Belgium. They think I'm only Belgian on paper. That is not true. Yes, I was a Russian, even a proud one.... Now I am proud to be Belgian. The first thing I did was learn French. Now there are some books in my suitcase to learn Flemish. It's not easy"

I don't take that into account because I don't care why has he became a Belgian. I'm only about his belonging to Ukraine and Moldova.

I do respect changing sports, though, so props to Clara Hughes (from my hometown, so I guess there's a bit of bias)... medalled in MTB in '96 Atlanta games, had a long and successful career in speed skating (including gold in 2006), and now is 'retiring' by going to the road and getting top 5 in the worlds.

Actually, no MTB for Hughes, but she did win bronze in both the TT and road race in Atlanta '96, as well as silver medal in the '95 TT World Championships. Not exactly a stranger to medal performances in big events on the bike, not even getting into her status as the most successful winter-summer crossover athlete in Olympic history.

what does a nazi-turn-anti-nazi have to do with this?
edit: not trolling, just curious.. is it a saying (figure of speech) or something? curious.

What ? :D

Even I don't know who you are talking about, timmyboy.
There should be a few search results, and you pick up some nazi-stuff.
In your case, should I start about caravans or cänguruhs next time ?

But to be honest, I meant Petrus. lol
In my very religious country, Petrus is said to be responsible for the weather, especially about rain or not.
Because I am so religious, I know both and mixed Paulus with Petrus.
Somehow Paulus has something to do with the weather, too. But thats more for farmers, while it also has to do with rain.
Everything clear now ?

Thank you, btw. I now know Friedrich Wilhelm Ernst Paulus. ;)

Judith Arndt == honorary Aussie

While we're at it, can I put in a claim of a little bit of Judith Arndt's medal for Australia, given that she seems to spend most of her recent off-seasons here (for instance, doing this audax event as base training ) :)

haha no. I'm studying world war II in an elective at uni, so yeah.. i thought it was maybe a figure of speech or something, lik I said was just curious :D

---

Anyway, I'm just against the whole nation-swapping thing. I don't mind if they ride for the juniors or u23.. but once the person has ridden for the main team I am against a possible change.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'm actually familiar with Paulus the historical figure, but given the context it didn't make sense that he meant him. Petrus, though, I still can't place. A pagan god of some sort?

As for athletes changing nations: if the only objection to it is that it makes identifying with them more difficult for the fans, that's really hardly any objection at all, is it? I mean, cycling is an international sport, and to limit oneself to enthusiasm based on something as abstract as the accident of birthplace is unnecessarily narrow, if you ask me.

"There is also the local rider Linda Villumsen. Although she rides under a New Zealand licence, she was born in Denmark, and has been bronze medallist for the past two years. She may prefer a more hilly course, but that home-country advantage can never be underestimated." ( By CN )

And she finished 2nd.

Congrats to Mads and Ardnt.
