Coronavirus: How dangerous a threat?

The Seattle Seahawks just packed a stadium last night with no masks! Stooopid. Many restaurants and businesses are requesting masked entry for even vaccinated individuals but the NFL? Even the Pittsburgh game had a requirement.
I think casinos here in Vegas are still letting people play next to each other with a mask when before there was 2 machine gaps between where they can sit. But everyone is at least wearing a mask besides eating or drinking. Though a lot don’t believe in COVID.

In today's press conference, the Danish government has said that they expect that everyone will (eventually) be offered a booster. While the number of cases are expected to rise over the autumn, there's no lock-down in sight.

88 % of today's cases are by unvaccinated people, despite being only 15 % of the population 12 years old and up (25 % of the whole population).

I guess that people who claimed that they weren't getting the vaccine because it was 'experimental' and not FDA approved will now transition to not getting the vaccine because the 'FDA approval was rushed'. It will give some teeth to the mandates, especially in places like the military, so that is positive. And seeing Berenson having a meltdown on twitter is priceless. All in all, a good day.

Perhaps the hospital administration should have thought twice about this:

I read this and it brings me back to some of the initial US Congress negotiations about a Covid action plan..very,very high on the list of demands by many law makers was limitations on liability and tort reform specifically about Covid-19.
This is story for sure about the best of both worlds..if you get Covid in a medical environment, even a night school lawyer could get you a settlement by saying, showing that the facility administration didn't pursue all available actions to protect employees..
Congress asked that businesses be exempt from litigation for infections at work or by patrons, if negligence could be proven .And some of the real time reasons it didn't happen..grocery workers and meat packing facility workers were getting it,getting really really sick or dying and the companies said it's too expensive to truly protect people..farming..same thing..not enough margin or time to figure out a new way..
Anyone working in a medical service environment that is unvaccinated should immediately be removed and replaced..and their professional licence should be followed to ensure that if Russian roulette is part of their personality..ok..but it can't be part of care giving in any capacity..the idea that it was shortsighted to get rid of ultra high risk behavior employees doesn't hold up..
trench coat in front of the elementary school..guy wearing a mask, you can see from the bottom of the coat to the ground, doesn't have pants..when is it too early to intervene? Any doctor or nurse discussing Jewish space lasers should have their car towed if they don't leave in @5 minutes..there unlimited quirky situations that could present themselves in life, but if the personnel providing medical care don't believe in medicine, get rid of them..
In my opinion the story about the hospital firings is a lead in to the stories about people who deny Covid exists to whatever degree, radio host, political leaders, community icon..and then get sick and die..
You don't have to be a deep thinker..just listen to doctors, nurses and administration saying that they are overwhelmed..I believe them..

There are signs that the sunbelt outbreaks are nearing their peaks. Astonishing to see that those peaks were some of the highest experienced during this pandemic in places like Florida, given the plethora of free vaccines. The Midwest and East need to take this canary in the coal mine seriously. They need to vaccinate as many people as possible to avoid hospital crises in October-December.

The North East coast should have some of the higher vaccination rates which should help with the numbers of hospitalizations and thus deaths.

Demographics for the entire country show the least vax demo is black. That is a fact. Next up is Hispanics that's a fact. Whites are not much better but the Asians regardless of education are the most vaxed.
That's correct - looking at latest CDC data, only 40% of blacks have been vaccinated (total U.S. population 14%). But where are their political & community leaders at in promoting the vaccine? Take LeBron James for example - very outspoken in African-American issues - but won't say whether he has or plans to take the vaccine:

So, with his ambiguity there's only two possibilities:

1) He took the vaccine but for some reason he doesn't feel comfortable in disclosing this information. By not disclosing he then would not be interested in publicly promoting the vaccine to the black community.

2) He didn't take the vaccine and doesn't feel comfortable in disclosing because of likelyhood that this would discourage some in the black community from taking the vaccine. And not just the black community but perhaps all ethnic groups, i.e., "if the vaccine isn't good enough for LeBron then it isn't good enough for me."

Will we ever know? Probably not unless the Lakers release the info, which is unlikely. Scenario #2 seems most logical to me but again who knows - LeBron is being very mysterious.

The nurses & other staff that were fired are not denying that Covid exists but are merely protesting having to take the vaccine because of concerns of side-effects & possible long-term risks. One of the nurses, Jennifer Bridges, said "she has personally witnessed some horrible adverse reactions with hundreds of people." Some other nurses have said they're worried about side-effects affecting their fertility. Still others who had Covid are worried about ADE:

This will be a very interesting case to follow. The attorneys for the fired employees have filed an appeal with the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. If the appeals court agrees with the lower court's decision, the employees have said they want to appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court - if the SC will hear the case.

Is this an overreaction or is there legitimate concern with this "lota" variant?

"Covid horror warning as fears erupt over "alarming" vaccine-resistant "New York" varaint."

Only 50% of whites and 45% of hispanics are vaccinated, so not that different. The 67% of Asians that are vaccinated are where everybody needs to be. Percent of total population may also be misleading as people also need to factor in demographics. Which races are overrepresented in children under 12, who can't legally get a vaccine? I would guess Hispanics > Blacks > Whites.

Way, way overblown. Iota was in NYC in 2020, but got wiped out by fitter variants. Iota's relative advantage is its immune evasion, but that couldn't keep up with the better transmission profile of alpha and delta.

In a State such as Mississippi its a large difference. Only 30% of blacks took the vaccine - the states population is 40% black. That makes a difference when you see who is in the hospital with covid. The majority is black unvaxed. Sad situation for sure but that was their choice.

First part of this article talks about the B-Cell response to Covid in people who have had the mRNA vaccines. It sounds like very good news, although it does say more studies are needed.

edited to add another article talking about studies that are showing fully vaccinated people who do catch the virus (even the Delta variant) are less likely to spread it and are more likely to have mild to moderate cases and recover faster.

FDA approval would not come with any carte' blanche liability waiver. The real world and insurance risks will begin to drive policy for those that avoid vaccination and the few that have legitimate concerns about their risk should get some latitude. Unfortunately employers will be forced to have policies that don't give them much room I would expect.
The recent death count of naysayers and surge in Florida is beginning to change popular perception and it will, as it should; wreck some political opportunist careers in the process. If the governors of Texas and Florida gain re election that will say much about the regional politics and probably the media that influences them. There doesn't seem to be much science still in the arguments anymore.
And is Australia really the sh*t show with demonstrations and 27% vaccination rate? There has to be some serious political/media mindset that allows for that. I smell Rupert Murdoch.

There is a systemic church-based influence, delivered from the pulpit on much of that population that trickles down to family. The Evangelical US churches wholeheartedly embraced the "faith" angle while supporting political candidates and I hear it still from old acquaintances. The "lack of testing" is the extent of any response based on science ( they can't explain what testing would be adequate although one guy refused because he heard it hadn't been tested on pregnant women), followed quickly by a "faith in God..." It's not just in Mississippi; it's in our state in two counties that are historically conservative. Washington may be heading to a lockdown again in Snohomish and Pierce Counties. WTF.
