Starc is only an 'exciting young quick' in the minds of people like Michael Slater. I'm quite confident that most fans of Australian cricket recognise he's only slightly above average and that the real finds (test wise) are Pattinson, Bird and Cummins. He's erratic, error prone, and in my view basically Mitchell Johnson Mk II, except a bit better with the bat. Best case scenario, he turns out to be an enigma like Johnson or Broad, worst case he becomes Shaun Tait.

I'm also quite confident that Johnson won't be a first choice quick. Surely. Not even Mickey Arthur and John Invararity, with the vast amounts of idiocy they have subjected us to, would be that stupid (would they? I wouldn't put it past them actually :().

Unfortunately two of our best in Harris and Cummins have had all sorts of injury problems. Throwing Cummins into Tests at such a young age even they he played well was a bit reckless and now he is paying for it. Shame. Johnson won't play unless all of our quicks get injured. He neither takes wickets consistently or bowls economically so he is too big a risk. Tait was ok in 20/20 or even sometimes in ODIs as he usually took wickets but leaked runs of course.

Dissapointing finish to Englands Innings, hopefully Ravi can get a few runs of last two

Superb last over, 28 runs from Ravi and Billy Bowden loses his hat and falls over running after it. England would have taken that score all day long!

bopara bowling has always been a tactic i wanted see use but his batting had been woeful for a while. Bresnans batting has gone too with his bowling improving.

Umpire wants to change a 12 over old ball with no discolouration.

Dubious at best

Since it's a Kookaburra ball I bet there was something wrong with it, there always is...

Great knock by Sri Lanka, Woeful bowling from England on the other hand. The right team won but now NZ has to at least get a no result against England but a win possible with the curent England team and a fit Vettori on the turning pitch in Cardiff.

I think the ball change was because Dar and Bowden warned Cook a couple of times about deliberately throwing the ball in from the outfield on the bounce, which has apparently been prohibited (awful decision, might as well replace all bowlers with 120km bowling machines). England ignored that and kept doing it so yeah, they made their own bed. If they had listened and continued play with that slightly scuffed ball they may have gotten a little bit of reverse to go, whereas with the new ball they got none at all.

Lovely knock from Sanga. Cricket will miss him and Jayawardene when they go, sadly there aren't very many batsmen around with the same elegance and grace in their stroke play. Instead you have steady accumulators like Cook, Clarke, Trott, Kallis etc. and unorthodox innovators like de Villiers.

Not sure anything that grumpy ******* says should be given the dignity of the title allegation. He came out of the womb talking about how things used to be better.

No evidence whatsoever so far just rumour but the Umpires should come out and say why the ball was changed.

Pretty easy to clear up.

.

Really? Why are they so against reverse swing? With the two new balls and this rule, it would be very difficult to get reverse swing at a meaningful stage in the innings.

When I had seen the weather forecast I was dreading a the weather ruining the game. Im delighted they managed to get a 24 over game in and England are through. Hopefully Sri Lanka can win tomorrow and they go through as well.

I'd rather one of the other teams go through, on account of SL actually being decent.

Very true although as long as Sri Lanka don't thrash the Aussies we would win the group and Sri Lanka would play India.

That could be amusing.

I still expect the Indian batting to be fragile in difficult conditions, and I have no respect for their bowling after the last winter.

India has been looking good thank to weak opposition, SA was hampered by Steyn being injured an Morkel only able to bowl six overs, the Windies didn't do a good game and ****stan had to restart their innings three times... SL has Sanga and Mahela in form and a great bowling attack, it'll be a tight game.

I think both semi finals should be great games. You couldn't call which way it will go. Should England not win then I would like Sri Lanka to win.

Interesting to know that should the weather have its say and either game is a no result then its the group winners who go through to the final.

F'cast **** - will be another tied champions trophy, what a joke.

Amazing how bad the forecast is in Birmingham yet here in Kidderminster (16 miles away) its only forecast light showers around lunch time that clear up later in the afternoon.

If Birmingham get that weather then there's a chance we could get a 25/30 over game in.

If it is a shared trophy i'm still counting that as our first major 50-over tournament win. :D

Yeah fair cop, the rain radar doesn't look as horrific as the BBC forecast, and the BBC forecast is embarassingly poor in general (It had the NZ game as dry nearly all day on the morning of the match last week...)
