Genuine question, I was asked this last night by a mate at the Big Bash and didn't really have an answer.

Sachin (for example) has 51 Test centuries... but that includes, I dunno? several double tons? Why do the stats only reflect him as making a century? Shouldn't they list his double tons as being two centuries? Triples as three tons? I'm not sure what the answer is (hence the post), but thought it was an interesting question.

It's for reaching a milestone in an innings (edit this line doesn't make sense either reading it again?), not a number of runs scored. If you reach 100 it goes down as one hundred and zero fifties, not one hundred and two fifties, or one hundred and one fifty, or zero hundreds and two fifties. Anything further than 100 is still just one century as the common stats display doesn't show 150, 200 or 300. I don't think that's the answer you're looking for, I have no idea it works this way, that's just how it is, to me though it makes sense.

Yep, I think (know) you're right, it doesn't matter how far past 100 you go, we're still going to call it a hundred. It's just the way it's always been done, so we'll keep doing it that way.

My mate is an accountant, does my taxes, surely he should know the answer to his own question about friggin numbers! Might have to sack him.

Very selfless to declare at this time. I think that the 329 undefeated still looks okay

Yeh, they didn't even have a real crack at scoring runs, although they lifted the tempo a little in the last 10 overs.

There was still over 200 overs left in the game, you should be expected to bowl them out for 150, giving you enough room to move for bad weather. If you lose a day to weather no one can blame you for not winning the test match. But if the weather is fine and India bat for more than 150, Australia may be tasked with 100 or so on a crumbling pitch. Better to make the runs now than then. What happens if Sehwag is 150* at stumps. I would have brought them back out after tea just to **** them off and have their openers in the field for a little longer, with that extra time Australia could have made an extra 100. The records would have come with it if the two stayed out there, but they are not the most compelling reason to stay batting.

That's what I like about the Aussies. They play for the win, not for records.
If it was a subcontinent Captain He wouldn't have declared till he broke the record or got out.

Clarke's 329* is the 3rd highest FC score at the SCG and the highest score by a captain in an FC match, eight ahead of Billy Murdoch (the last man before Capt Drunky Ponting who lost three ashes series as captain). The top 2 scores are by DG Bradman- 452* and 340* against Queensland and Victoria.

He'll be far better than Dilshan. Don't know why Dilshan was saying to the media that he was happy with Lanka's performance against Australia. Sri Lanka should have been favourites for the first test at least but were very poor.

Looks like India will look for another coach after this series. I always thought that Haddin was a better batsmen than a keeper as he showed again today. Makes Ian Healy look like a genius. India seem to be clueless and the field positions by the captain don't help. I think Australia declared at the right time.
