Yet only about on the second fastest predicted schedule.

there are some ridiculous schedules anyway.not even in '94 they could ride like those physically impossible schedules.take yesterday for example,a stage with 4000 m of climbing...aso had the fastest schedule at 39 km/h....lol really?that is beyond the physics laws,....even 35 km/h was pretty much the average speed in a grand tour with that amount of climbing...
in giro they went fast too, same here.

many forget that in the 90's the first two hours in the mountain stages were done at cyclo-tourist speed,20-25 km/h
now it's full-gas from the start.

i hope we'll see some action.evans is brave enough as always to try something.
and yes,i hope froomy will have a nice bit of freedom today

Well, with less than 70km left of the stage, and live coverage (in Australia) starting in 45 minutes (it's supposed to start in 30 mins, but the commentators blabber for too long before going to live video), I suppose we'll get to see the riders going up the last climb. At least we can be thankful for that!

Gilbert pushing the pace. BMC predicts he won't survive Corbier and use him now instead?

Its all for evans today.
But I'm sure BMC could have used someone else like quinziato.
Don't know why they chose to use gilbert.
