So someone who races and gains a few seconds can be a hero (Yates, Kelderman) or a moron (VDB) depending on, er, what? The effort VDB did was to reduce the gap to Kelderman, so also done for time gain.

Double standards galore.

Exactly. Why don't people understand that it's normal as a top GC rider to prefer a fourth place over a fifth or sixth or...? We're not talking about becoming 23rd or something like that.

Lol yeah exactly the reason why Van den broeck has and never will win a GC in his entire life. If you don't care about your precious fourth or fifth place and let the top placed riders do all the work, it means at a certain point all the riders placed in front of you are tired and you can have a go and maybe win something. Anyway, good luck collecting 5th places the coming few years.

There was a moment when Froome gained a few bike lengths on Contador and Contador had to chase hard...TS should have brought a stronger team perhaps

yep & Froome looked back; didnt see Contador attacking, slowed down and rejoined.

nice mock attack. the poor kid doesnt understand that such things are not done from peloton with just a few kms left. the force of the bunch is always stronger.

Froome had richie porte driving in the front and he had 5 or 6 riders with him including Nibali and the Orica boys could have made a difference and everyone else was looking at Contador to close it

You can get the same result by letting someone who should do the work (the leader) actually do the work. VDB hit the front much longer than the yellow jersey did... that's moronic.

Is it such a shame to come fourth? Vandenbroek has never really cared for winning stages as much as for a high standing. I understand that everyone hates him here for his non-attacking riding style, but when he wants to get as high up there in the standings as he can, he doesn't have to take a risk. Not attacking gives him more certainty than attacking (although he does attack at times).

Also, he knows he's not going to win a sprint out of this group (and especially not with a rider up front), so why should he stay in the back and end the day with some energy left (and possibly some more seconds lost)?

You think he wudda got 10 secs lol?! Impey knows a lot more about tactics than u couch potatoes. He waved the moto away coz he hoped they would get a decent gap, when it got to the finish and they were only a couple of secs clear he sprinted for 4th place because of the world tour points on offer. Made prob no difference to yates' gap

We're seconds away from being called bone-idle here I can feel it.

Froome obviously doesn't have to care as much about kelderman and Yates gaining time on him than VDB.

This from the same person that was blasting a rider from caring about a 'precious 5th place'. Priceless :D

Do you seriously fail to comprehend those places in the GC are exactly the reason of Yates his attack? Impey jeopardizes the effort of a team mate. Also, Yates is 21 and van den Broeck is 31. They're in completely different stages of their career. If you need me to spell out your name for you, call me.

I don't know if it was much of a gap (camera angle was straight on) and Contador closed it pretty quickly as far as i could tell (camera angle switched to a side shot and it was all back together)

I am just saying maybe for once he should take a risk in life, it'll do him good.

Oh :D

La petite pique de Chris Froome : "Si Contador est très fort, il attaquera en montée. Pas en descente." #dauphine #etbim

Someone is salty

No one will remember JVDB a year after he is retired. Thats the consuequence of riding like that.

He pulled a few seconds and then stopped when Kelderman and Yates were up the road. No big deal. The only ones who are complaining about it are the Dutchies, but we all know why they do ;)
The only ones who are defending JVDB's master tactics are the Belgians ;)

Come on, if this were Rabo/Belkin riding behind whomever the Belgians would have a field day.
