Piti, Bertie, Froomie in 30 seconds

Maybe, but I question Piti's overall form (though he has kept in the pointy side of things so far). I think there will be a definite mix-up in the GC, and I agree gaps between the big boys will be tight. Should make for a fun TT day!

Impressive from Demare.

But it's still 'only' the Dauphiné. Can he do it finally in the race that matters most?
The Olympics?

Not enough talent, can't even win a stage in the Giro.

At least he has enough talent to live a life that doesn't revolve around flooding message boards to get some attention.

Wouldn't want to be known as the loser that won M-SR because he hung unto a motorbike.

Bertie can't beat Froome in such a flat TT. He'll lose at least 30 secs. Doesn't have the raw power anymore. Even Valverde should be better.

But I agree that Porte is likely to lose a lot of time to Froome. He is not that powerful anymore unless it's a hilly or mountain time trial.

On what basis you make this prediction? Hope? This is a 1 week race which if there is such a thing as a Porte specialty this is it. Everything we know about Porte in past seasons and his best ever form so far this season suggests he will ride a good TT tomorrow and then be close to Piti, AC and Froome in the mountains.

I can't see porte maintain this level at tour. He is strong since january. He was toying with the field on romandie, so he will crack big time in le tour

I doubt that. Wishful thinking? Lots of examples of riders being strong early in the season and carrying that form to the TdF. Cadel Evans 2011 was one. Porte did not crack in last years Tour. He seems to be gaining confidence by his strong performance in 2016 finally putting to rest the theory he would always have one bad day and lose 20 minutes in the autobus. I think Porte's big question for the TdF is still with his TTs, not mountains nor 3rd week consistency.

Bad luck is the biggest question. ;)

I'm not a LRP fan, but he does seem to cope with one week stage races pretty well. I'm not sure if it's considered schadenfreude since I dislike both, but Porte beating his old boss in this race would be hilarious, and would set up the tour to be even more exciting.

Hm, looking at the profile and the last few ITTs Porte did this year and in 2016, I'm no longer convinced the Porte Era will start tomorrow.

How hilly is it? Two very soft climbs at 3%? I think Froome will win the TT.

Porte needs a more hilly one.

I Agree. In my opinion Froome has always been a better TT'er than Porte, irrespective of the terrain
I think the first 3k is at 3.6% and then the second 'bump' at 15.5km is 2k at 5%

Break worked well together and it helped that there were 2 teams with 2 riders in it. Glad they hung on, FDJ and Katusha only teams in the peleton prepared to ride and it wasn't exactly full committment.

It's always nice when the break wins. I was of the opposite feeling regarding the two teams/two riders. Since, in theory, one teammate would set up the other, and the rest of the break knows that, I thought there would be some serious jockeying to get into the slipstream of one of the teams and the field would nip them at the line. We've seen that 8 times out of 10 in bike racing. Happily that didn't happen...

What chances to save maillot jaune by De Gendt?
Maybe he feels this is the moment when he can join the GC club. Good motivation.

Can't agree.
It's nice when breaker/s shows some brave, effort, power etc.
It's not, when main group shows just indolence.

He should keep it easily enough after the ITT. 1:09 buffer on the GC lot and he can TT pretty well.

He'll lose it on Friday though I expect.

Somebody seems to have pointed out to Kirby that Emanuel Buchmann is a climbing prospect with no sprint at all, as for a change he didn't announce that Bora were working for him in the sprint. There are young climbers on Bora with a surprisingly good sprint, like Konrad who occasionally moonlights as a final lead out. But Buchmann is probably the slowest guy on the whole team and Kirby has tipped him as an outsider for about half a dozen sprint stages.

I assume he kept getting him mixed up with Ackermann, who actually is a sprint prospect.

he is clearly thinking about the dauphine and the tour. the vuelta is just a possible bonus in case it'll goes really well with first two goals. not that winning the dauphine at all costs is necessarily, but froome hopes to be quite strong here. it would bode really well for the tour.
