Roglic is in a bit of a difficult situation in this race in terms of public perception.

If he goes full gas & drops everyone, people will say he's overdoing it & wasting energy he'll need in the Tour, whilst if he gets dropped... it'll be predictable negative headlines everywhere. Something in between both extremes will also look a little subpar by his usual standards as well.

Personally I remember Pogacar riding almost anonymously in the 2020 Dauphiné two weeks before the Tour de France. So for Rog 'the' most important part is A/Don't crash & B/achieve whatever goals he's set in this race (numbers most likely).

I also hope his knee is okay as well. My prediction: he'll ride it like he rode the first week of last year's Vuelta, i.e. follow along & not do too much.

I think the goal for Roglic should be to win this as boring as possible. Smash ITT. Maybe do the uphill sprints. If you have the luxury on the big MTF, get loldropped if it's better for the training.

Dauphine is also a bone I might throw to Vingegaard provided he can win it.

For Rogla i don't have high expectations. GC plus two stage wins should do.

Looking forward to ITT stage to see how he will perform on such route.

If Roglic has the form he will win it in time bonuses as he often does, knowing his TT is his insurance on the podium. However, he is probably here to test his knee as much as anything. I'm sure he would prefer to not race the same as he did last year and Pogcar this year, who is only doing Slovenia paycheck race in-between Fleche & Le Tour which is quite the gap really.

Last year was different because the Olympics were a week after the Tour and they wanted to keep Roglič fresh for that as well. But they have realised that going into the hectic first week of the Tour with 2 months of not riding a single race in the peloton enviroment might have been one of the reasons for his crash(es) last year. So they have gone back to the traditional Dauphine approach. Besides, the route suits him down to the T, the competition seems rather week and I am sure he wants to win after what happened in 2020. So I believe doing the Dauphine is the right decision.

Regarding crashes at TDF 2021. I would say that not much could have been done at Allez Opi & Omi incident. The team was protecting him and there really wasn't much to do. In regards to Colbrelli incident. Here the team didn't protect him all that much. This could hence improve. Said that both incidents likely didn't happen due to Roglič not participating in much races prior to the Tour.

As for this year. I am happy he is doing Dauphiné. That is to combine training and some racing. In my opinion this is optimal.

This is a WT team's squad for a big stage race.
Thing is there are many other teams that don't look much stronger than this either (at least this one has a huge name)

Meanwhile JV....
I don't know why, but so many teams are prioritising Tour de Suisse this year. Its probably a better race but also probably a bit worse for Tour de France prep

Yes, it leans toward Suisse this year, which I won't complain. Some teams will always look stretched with these two anyway, this year DSM, BEX, Lotto..., and some will leave one of them with crumbs

The Dauphiné has always been a difficult stage race. But this year the Tour of Switzerland is more difficult. Not one flat stage, higher mountains, longer climbs..... and a stronger field of participants.

But has been removed again. Instead Astana posted a tweet about Lopez being out on a training ride. So maybe Tour de Suisse for him.
Cheers, noticed that as well. If he doesn't line-up for the TDS,doesn't seem much point in him going to the Tour, unless it's stagehunting?

This year the Dauphine is being under appreciated by teams for some reason. It is not like it used to be, I guess.
