Trek super impressive staying on message the entire day..thought that Milan was blown but team went back and towed him into position. The lead out was often crash up derby!! Lots of swinging, swimming lines, half dozen almost crashes!
MvP can see his very very late decision likely cost him the race, his speed and power were on, just late!!
Roads not always wide or straight, or not 5,6 across.. EF director telling guys it was OK to ride in the kitchen all day is dangerous and ridiculous.. Whatever Ben Healy was doing, his team car needs to strong slap across the face!! Fred Wright racing with some zip and zest!! UAE taking unnecessary risks for Pogacar to ultimately get an ST( same time) in the sprint.. If he was going to contest the sprint, fine..but why? Positioning was crazy!! Good show from Bardet..
This time trial is going to blow up the race..Remco is staying calm..

Re: why Milan is doing the Tour instead of Mads, Steven de Jongh said a sponsor demanded it. Which I find kind of weird but there you go.

Milan can show up but if Tim Merlier is on his way up, he just won Belgian classic, Milan won't beat him, Visma does not have anyone who can beat him. Bora doesn't, UAE does not even try. Tudor, Picnic have a sprinter but they will just watch Merlier from behind

The kitchen, coffee klatch, toilet, off the back, in the as$ of the race. In the basement
You can't see or do anything from last place except for lose, crash, get caught behind trouble, terrible place to stay if you have any aspirations of results.

Who knows, maybe. The climb is 1.2 km long and almost 10%. Maybe Pogacar and Vingegaard will decide to have some fun and distance the rest.

Healy knows full well that he can't compete for GC. So he is doing the intelligent thing of losing time, so he won't be prevented from getting in the early breakaway. A fairly standard tactic, surely? Watch out for stage 5.

So in Tour of Slovenia we saw Rui Olivera relegated for coming to close to another ride in the sprint. Why isn't there more relegations today? I saw literally half the sprint trains headbutting each other, elbowing, deviating, etc. Are the rules only reserved for smaller races and smaller names?

Because the sprint stages are too easy and the hilly stages are too hard in the first week. Correct call IMO. Mads needs stages in between to win against these boys

if one goes they will all have to react unless it’s MVDP then they can let him go as no danger for long term GC but Pogacar likely can’t resist following.

FYI: the 1940 TdF was cancelled for WW2.
