What?!?! No offense, but this race is positively backloaded with mountains (including multiple HC climbs) plus there is an ITT yet to come as well; today was exciting and frankly unexpected but to suggest it's all over after today doesn't make much sense, at least to me.
I agree. Vingegaard tried something new! Imagine that! Would it have been better just to stay in the bunch until the finish line? After a three-month absence from racing, he wanted to test his legs.

By the way, having made my disdain for sprint stages known, I'm absolutely thrilled to see a sharp hill toward the end of the stage that can cull out some of the "sprint specialists." That made the entire stage.
As far as "sprinters" go, I genuinely don't care if you're super fast over like 300 meters. Good on you, that's what track racing is for. The only reason we have flat stages is 1) advertising for tourism, and 2) let the GC contenders rest.
That's a little unfair #sprinter's lives matter too

You are extrapolating a lot from a single sample. As usual in the Dauphine, we don’t know where riders are in their training schedule. And this was the 1st racing after altitude, even they weren’t sure how their bodies would respond.
Yes I am, it's what we do in here, debate what we have seen and extrapolate what that may mean for the future.

I do not have a time machine ;)

"The King of sprinters"

I can't really agree with that.
Jonas has been out for a long time and today was something out of character from him, maybe even unplanned (he said so).
In the end he had a good leg stretch and got a good sprint performance. Maybe he even realized he might have another tool in his toolbox.

So yea, he lost 4s to Pogacar, but so what? This is only the 1st stage of the Dauphine.
He might have gained something worth more than the 4s.

As for Visma, if they're serious about Vingegaard, then they're playing the long game (not a stage, not even the Dauphiné). They must be happy with his performance today, for sure.

If Visma believes Jonas is stronger in mountains then they didn't play the long game yesterday. What they did is they played into Pogi game and he punished them for it. Did everything in their power for Pogi to win a stage. As i mean c'mon, Jonas now classics rider. It's like saying Nairo is good in crosswinds.

I dont think either Pogacar or Vingo took yesterday's stage super serious. At the end its Dauphine, not TdF. They just had some fun.
