A day late, but seeing as there are some well-known names in this stage race I thought I'd make a thread. Maybe more than a couple of us might be watching it and want to discuss it, or we can just check the stage profiles here and continue the discussion in the 'lesser known races' thread.

Start list: https://crorace.com/en/start-list/

Stage 1 | Vodice - Sinj (162.5 km)

Stage 2 | Biograd na Moru - Novalja (114.5 km)

Stage 3 | Otočac - Opatija (154 km)

Stage 4 | Krk - Labin (160.5 km)

Stage 5 | Ozalj - Karlovac (167 km)

Stage 6 | Sveta Nedelja - Zagreb (157.5 km)

Thank goodness this race has only 6 stages, can't imagine having to post maps for a whole GT!

I only caught the last 14km of today's stage, the roads looked narrow and twisty. But old man Kristoff won the sprint, chapeau!

I feel like I should decorate this thread with some more maps because no race thread can ever have enough maps... hopefully the image host I've been using doesn't crap out, cause then all you guys will be able to see are little red Xs. Apologies in advance.

Stage 2: Biograd na Moru - Novalja (114.5 km)

Stage 3: Otočac - Opatija (154 km)

Stage 4: Krk - Labin (160.5 km)

Stage 5: Ozalj - Karlovac (167 km)

Stage 6: Sveta Nedelja - Zagreb (157.5 km)

I visited Croatia as a kid many moons ago btw., back then it was part of Yugoslavia. My family visited Split, which is a little further down the coast from where they will be riding stage 2 today. But, we visited in the summer... my memories are very hazy, but what I do remember is jumping off an old shipwreck into the Adriatic Sea with some other kids, it was fun! The other memory is using a public toilet, which was basically just a small hole in the ground. This was very confusing for me as a kid, while we didn't have a whole lot in the former Eastern Bloc we at least did have flushing public toilets in the former CSSR where I hail from!

Anyhoo, I think the coastal scenery in stage 2 today should be lovely, and I'm sure they have flushing public toilets in Croatia these days. Though, riders are used to going on nature breaks out in the open anyway, so not sure it matters to them all that much. ;)

My live feed won't start for a few more minutes, but PCS says there is some wind, specifically 32 kilometer p/hour (fresh breeze), direction South-East.

PCS also says there was a crash in the peloton already, don't know who was involved though.

And we're LIVE!

I'm not familiar with any of the riders in the break, but there's still about 74km to go and the peloton is only 25secs behind.

Fred Wright for the win! :D

No Sunday ride today, the pace is pretty brisk. This stage will be over before I have a chance to find out who the Ineos rider is in the current break...

Never mind, it's Heiduk.

Break caught, Aussie lady commentator thinks a break has no chance to succeed today because there's a tailwind and the peloton is going so fast. She also thinks Kristoff could win again today, eh, why not?

In other news there are just about zero spectators on the roadsides, bummer. But the coastal scenery is nice, some parts remind me of the local Oregon coast.

43km to go.

Excluding tourists and second home owners, the Croatian islands are pretty sparsely populated. And October isn't exactly the tourist season...
They showed some people on the coast looking out at the sea, don't think they cared about the bike race one bit.

Here though only 15km to go with a tailwind!

Always nice with maps!

Back in 1990 or before the revolution?
