I found fresh Basil in the market just begging to be made into Pesto. Just add a little Angel Hair Pasta and Garlic Bread. I chopped everything by hand as it is supposed to be superior to using the food processor. It was really good but it has been many years since I made it but it seemed worth the effort. A couple of glasses of white wine insured the process went smoothly

Thanks Susan. Let it be known I am a horrible baker. I know how, took a 18 week professional baking course but I think I start with a defeatist attitude. For the final exam I made a pound cake from The Cake Bible" in the middle of baking someone turned off the oven:mad: My poor pound cake never had a chance.:(

Small NY Steak, Leftover Pesto, Tomato, Onion and Parsley Salad with EV Olive Oil and White Balsamic Vinegar. I have not decided on the vinegar but it may go on my aberration list with "Alfredo Sauce". It did make a great salad

I donÄt have the photos, but tonight's menu is as follows:

Threw three chicken breasts in teh crockpot along with a chopped up onion and a cup of chicken broth. Will probably make chicken-flavoured baked rice, along with broccoli and a small green salad to go with it.

The Chinese food is OK. What I have had so far compares to the cheap strip mall steam table Chinese food in the States. I come from an area in Los Angeles that has been referred to as the Chinese Beverly Hills. Good Asian food was abundant.
Mexico also has a rich history with Chinese immigrants from the mid 1800's as many Chinese entered Mexico on their way to California to work in the gold rush and also the transcontinental railroad.
I'm sure there a good places for Chinese here. I just need to find them.
The place I go is so close

How to Make Alcoholic Ice Cream, the Greatest Dessert of All Time
You love booze. You love ice cream. Unfortunately, if you cram ice cream full of alcohol, it won't freeze. If only there were a way... THERE IS! Meet the ladies who cracked the code.
Alcohol flavored ice creams are abundant: Bailey's, Guinness, Jack Daniels, Rum Raisin—they're everywhere. But none of them have any kick. Why? Because alcohol's freezing point is waaaaay lower than water's, which means that it's damn near impossible to get boozy ice cream to retain that lovely, semi-solid form we so adore. So there's no booze in them,

With my kitchen all torn up there has been no cooking. Chinese take out, Pizza, tamales and such. Yesterday I decided to check out a new kid in town.
Fiesta @ El Pescador
A New Kind of Roadhouse
. I should have been suspicious right from the start. A fish restaurant serving Texas BBQ in Baja but I checked out the website and Menu and they used all the proper buzz words so I decided to check them out.

Upon arrival things were looking good. The exact type of smoker I used to own is puffing out smoke in the front. Nice inside, friendly staff. Things then took a turn for the worst. I decided on a BBQ pork sandwich. It was not available. OK how about a brisket sandwich? not available. I was offended:mad: A Texas roadhouse with no brisket? I got up to leave but the waiter had brought my iced tea along with the bad news and being too cheap to pay for it and not drink it I sat back down. Second mistake. I ended up ordering a chili dog and fries. The chili had beans and was way too sweet. the fries were good. That still left me with no dinner. So I ordered baby back ribs to go. Third mistake. I'll just say they fall were off the bone ribs. Every thing else about them was lousy they were dry the sauce was lousy.

And the bill came to $23USD that's a lot of fish tacos:eek:

My roommate bought this at the farmers market. he was told it was a fruit and sweet.
Does it need to ripen? Does it need to be cooked? What in the world is it? I have no idea

It really looks like a large ovid kiwi fruit

The flesh was tough. I didn't taste it but the roommate said it was awful.
I then asked him if he thought it might be poisonous to eat raw?
He was not amused:p

I found it!
Mamey Sapote with The Tropical Fruit Growers of South Florida
The mamey sapote (Pouteria sapota) is a species of tree native to southern Mexico. Today, the tree is cultivated not only in Mexico, but also in Central America, the Caribbean, and South Florida for its fruit, which is commonly eaten in many Latin American countries. Mamey sapote is a large and highly ornamental evergreen tree that can reach a height of 15 to 45 meters (60 to 140 feet) at maturity. Like most fruit trees, it is mainly propagated by grafting, which ensures the new plant has the same characteristics as the parent, especially its fruit. It is also considerably faster than growing trees by seed. The fruit is about 10 to 25 cm (4 to 10 inches) long and 8 to 12 cm (3 to 5 inches) wide and has orange flesh.

OK still not able to get my groove on in the kitchen. Today I went to Sake-Sake Sushi and Teriyaki. The teriyaki sauce was not too good and the California Rolls did not come with wasabi or pickled ginger. Why must life treat me so unjustly:p
