At least NBC had the decency to deliver the last 40 to 60 km advert free during Le Tour.
However, these numbnuts went for adverts very late.

Luckily I had my laptop nearby and I VPN'd and got an ad free Flemish broadcast I could turn to during the completely unprofessional Peacock cutaways.

They had 2 options for the race on Peacock. I had it running on CNBC on my TV plus on my Samsung phone, Peacock option 1. The commercials didn't run at the same time, so I was pretty successful watching the entire race, but it was a real pain in the butt! Actually, there were no commercials on Peacock option 1. It was all views of Paris to music instead of a commercial.

i thought the amount of commercials was about as expected considering that it was being shown on cable. it was worth it for the great commentary by Steve Schlanger and Bob Roll. the announcers on the world feed were absolutely awful.

I watched the replay of the women's race on peacock.
It was "ad free" only in sense that it had no ads. But they still cut out the 1.5km (3 minutes?) of action that wasn't aired on the original broadcast for each commercial break.

That is weird.

They are getting a live feed from the Olympic broadcaster—who doesn’t stop filming when various countries take their network commercial breaks. That non-commercial filming would still be running in their NBC/Peacock studio, enabling them to simply play back the interrupted broadcast as their replay—with ambient sound (or no sound) for parts of the race that transpired during the commercial breaks.
But perhaps they couldn’t tolerate the possibility that their commentators aren’t talking during every moment of the broadcast.

if they (NBC) are piping in commercials on the world feed then there's no way they're going to upload the world feed without them or without the breaks cut out for on-demand. if you pay for premium Peacock you get on-demand with the ads removed, if you dont pay for premium then you get the ads whenever they took a break live. i dunno why that is weird? that's how it's always been. if they wanted you to be able to see the world feed live uninterrupted then they would've shown it like that to begin with.

sorry i dont mean to be a tool but i've seen people bitching and moaning all over twitter as if they've never experienced the shitshow that is American television before. it blows and it always has, this is nothing abnormal. someone on youtube uploaded OLN coverage of some 2001-2005 Tour de France stages and the amount of commercials on those is way way way worse than anything we've had to experience this year.

there is no "commercial free", the best you can do is premium which will still have ads live but if you watch something on-demand they are cut out. sorry i misspoke by saying "ad-free", i was referring to premium.

I’m watching a Belgian broadcast so it doesn’t bother me one bit. I see what you’re saying though—they’re only letting those who paid for full, commercial-coverage to get the full broadcast on replay.

You think so? Yes I guess maybe it's just his Olympic commentator career then, but it's not really specified.
While it is a niche sport in the USA, Phil completely retiring would garner more coverage than this announcement has. At least NBC themselves would’ve released press release.
