Great rider has more than enough wins to go down as a legend for us Irish. On another note last year in Giro he was only rider to not cycle up his to the stage, has certainly got bike handling fears

As I posted in the Clinic thread not realising he had one here..

Worlds 2013 - DNF
Amstel 2014 - DNF
Liege 2014 - No explanation necessary
Giro 2014 - DNF
Worlds 2014 - DNF
Fleche 2015 - DNF

Shame :(

His record in WT one day races the last three years:

2013:

AGR: DNF
FW: 4
LBL: 1
Lombardia: 4

2014:

AGR: DNF
FW: 2
LBL: 39
Lombardia: 1

2015:

AGR: 15
FW: DNF

That's a pretty damn good record. He should just realise that he's not a GT rider.

Seems he got a puncture at the start of the last climb yesterday. Explains why he just seemed to disappear from the front group. Should be in good shape for the Tour by the looks of things anyway.
Let's hope so, the first week is good for him and there are a few stages in the second and third weeks that are also good for him.

Wow, what a shame with this puncture. These Garmin riders tend to have flats/mechanicals at the worst possible time quite often. Cannondale lacks WT points badly so it would be bad if that flat costs Dan some places in GC at the end of the race.

This is the first time in his career when Dan shows some form at Dauphine.

The Tour's route suits him very well. Only 14kms of ITT and lots of hilly stages with time bonuses. I can see him finishing top10 overall. But there's a problem who are they going to work for early in the race at Cannondale. I don't think it's the route that promotes the multiple leaders in the team approach. Plenty of stages where you could potentially lose time so it could be better to be focused on protecting one rider.

Dan Martin gets on my nerves....He should win a lot more and like all Garmin riders they seem to have no idea what exactly they should be doing.
Talents going to waste IMO. They need someone in charge who knows what their doing.

Talansky is better as a GC rider, Martin lacks consistency. I'd go with Talansky as a protected rider and Dan with a free role

don't know what happened this year to vaughters and garmin but my god they are now worse even than rabofail/lottonl. riders are literally riding backwards this season. hope the team disappears after this year

Talansky seems more like the usual minor GC man, steady but mostly anonymous. But there's little evidence to suggest that he's more likely to get a good GC placing than Martin on this Tour parcours. The issue is less that Talansky is a better bet for GC and more that Martin is a much, much, better bet to win stages.

Was there something up with Talansky today, by the way? He was terrible.

Wouldn't he be representing The UK, but for British Cycling rejecting him for his 'style' ?

They didn't reject him because he bobs up and down like he's swimming in rough seas. They rejected him because he was a miniature climber/puncheur at a time when BC wasn't interested in anyone who couldn't earn medals riding round and round a velodrome.

Is anyone have news about Hesjedal's presence at the Tour? He is riding Route du Sud next week. I remember he said at the end of the Giro that he wants to be on the squad list for the TDF and that he believe he can keep his form from the 3rd week of the Giro there.

If he wants to go, they will almost certainly take him. Probably not as an intended leader, but perhaps as a stage hunter or a fall back GC man. Ryder has never been shy about doing domestique work for his team mates.

I think if he wasn't going he would have done Dauphine or TdS for the team to take advantage of his form

QS DS's saying they'll put 5 guys around him to protect him from crashes if he wants it. I can't wait to see him at the Ardennes with the QS machine doing a proper job for him. I think Garmin's less hierarchical style did him no favours.

Indeed, at every short sharp uphill stage or race last year he started the final climb way back and was always playing catch-up - if some big Belgian bullies can plonk him at the front right before the road goes up he could be in for a good season.

Good win for him today. He's one of the last people you want with you with one uphill km to go.

More importantly it looks like moving teams has been good for him. Etixx expect to win on a regular basis all season long, which must be a bit of a culture shock for him.

Etixx must be pleased with his start.
