Oh dear, fruitboy is getting wound up again. Soy mush must attack brain cells 'cause vegan math sucks. That poster suggests that each cow requires nearly 7 million gallons of water to grow the grain it will consume. Which would mean that Kevin Costner is flapping his webbed feet around here somewhere.

I would ask him, "Mac, why do you keep getting beat up? Would you like a steak? Slap it on that black eye and watch the swelling go down."

That is pretty funny. But we are trying to save the planet, lets use the bag of frozen peas

Nothing can beat the "Double Coronary Bypass Burger" from the Vortex in Atlanta. Topped with two fried eggs, four slices of American cheese, and 5 slices of bacon, with two grilled cheese sandwiches replacing the buns. Anything else is for sissys!

That's wrong on so many levels.

Well, i must admit, i'm impressed with the ability of forum members to use Google Images to search for 'food pyramid' and then post whatever they come across. Real heady stuff.

It's funny how people complain about how vegans 'harass' them. A thread like this shows just how backwards that really is.

I respond to misinformation with accurate, useful data and source it all, and then six full pages of stupidity follows.

Seems to me based on this reaction that the meat-eaters have 'more to prove'...

If you had been paying attention then you would know that Durianrider, more commonly known as fruitboy, has been pushing his vegan crap on everyone for months. So whenever he makes one of his fruit religion posts, we respond with images of food.

That's one tasty burger.

Okay, so one person is obnoxious - so that justifies dozens of obnoxious postings from others? That seems a little off to me.

And isn't all the postings from these people just telling him that he can continue to post his idiocy too? I was always under the impression that the best way to deal with people you don't like on Forums is to ignore them. The whole reason they're here is for attention, so the best response is no response - right? In my own experience, they eventually go away when no one pays them any attention.

Fruitboy is nice enough in person and a very fit rider, but i've never been impressed with his online 'activism', and especially his alignment with another obnoxious and asinine organization: PETA, who's adverts we've had the misfortune of having to view on here courtesy of Fruitboy.

Regardless of Fruitboy's behaviour, how does one justify the six pages of crap on here?

If you're not interested, move onto the next thread. If you want to have a meaningful discussion on Dave Z's choice, or veganism in general, then post something.

Let's try and maintain some civility and sanity here, even if there is an off character or two...

O.K. So David Z is a vegan. Why should that surprize anybody? After all cyclists are a very peculiar lot.

yeah, who cares. Organibal Lecter will find him walking out of WholeFoods and turn him into the snickers bar of the meat world.

IIRC, there was an article in the Clinic, that stated that David Z was actually allergic to whole bunch of foods, ie diary, gluton, meat etc. I've tried searching for it, but to no avail so far.

I would have thought nutrition was one of the big issues for cyclists.

I don't quite understand then why someone is defined as "obnoxious" because they start and contribute to threads on nutrition?

While I have found the burger pictures amazing and the pyramids amusing their purpose is to avoid debate on the issue.

It's much easier to slander and ridicule Durianrider than to start debating him on it.

Perhaps if he stopped trying to push his message and trying to act it as his mission to convert people, along with this image that he is some sort of vegan superman, who also tags on the back of team training rides in South Australia every January, and this habit of self-promotion, then perhaps people would do the same.

I've met him, and he's a nice enough guy, but that is one thing that does irk me.

agreed Craig, I enjoy this banter and find DR and Polyarour entertaining and motivational. I just hope that neither bow to the 'old school' posters who seem intent on turning this forum into an elitist oligarchy. Basically I want to here your voices more than i want to here some '*****' cry about LA, so bring it on:p

"Saving the planet"?
Ugh. How stupid is this argument? The planet will be swallowed by the sun in about 5 billion years, you think you can save it?

As tasty as that might be and it does look, that's just pure gluttony right there. No one needs to eat anything like that in a single sitting.
Yeah. Similarly, I've often wondered why people have such nice motor vechicles to move around perfectly functioning bicycles. In fact, the bevy of bicycles they have to place atop that vechile are curious.

Surely they dont need them.

That's enough, folks.

Either discuss Zabriske and ONLY Zabriskie, or I will close this.

Susan

To be fair though, the very purpose of the topic creator was to bait people into a discussion about the apparent 'pros' of being vegan. And everybody knows it. Zabriskie is just an excuse.

Huh? So any time the topic of 'vegan' comes up, it's to 'bait people'? Good grief.

There's a lot of ignorance out there about veganism (as i pointed out on the first page), and it's exciting to see other athletes demonstrating that we can choose a more peaceful way of living that's better for the environment and still be highly-competitive athletes.

Again, many appear to believe the opposite of this: that it's unhealthy, or we need to eat 'complete proteins' and similar misinformation.

And once more: if people aren't interested, then they can move onto the next topic. Why is this such a big deal for so many?!?

Anyway, i hope Dave Z posts entries about what he's eating, both on and off the ProTour circuit. I'm keen to read about this, and his experiences with his team cooks, etc.. Will they be irritated to have to prepare something different, or will they be enthused being able to get more creative, and try out more recipes and experiment with more foods?

No.

As soon as the word vegan is mentioned, certain people take it as a green light to trash the thread.

If 20 anti cat people descend on the "Cat" thread and trash it, is that BroDeal's fault for baiting people by starting the thread? Why can't 20 non drinkers trash the "Beer Drinkers" thread because they're sick of being baited by alcohol propoganda?

If Dave Zabriskie is a vegan of course it's worth discussing. After all, the conventional view is that you can't perform at a high level if you don't eat meat or animal products.

I'm not sure that the conventional view is that you can't perform at a high level on a vegan/vegetarian diet.
It is more that most people can't perform at quite as high a level without some animal protein. It's likely there are exceptions to that.
As far as Dave Z, when did he become vegan? If it's this year, then his form has dropped...
But that's just correlation, not causation.

Who cares what Dave Z has gone vegan. He has also grown a mustache lately (it's been for a while, I know). I don't see a thread about his mustache! WHERE IS THE MUSTACHE THREAD!

Nope. When Durianrider posts his vegan religious tracts it is to bait people. It has nothing to do with vegatarianism per se. Pay attention, assuming the lack of meat has not affected your neural function, and you will notice these things.

There is a vegan thread in the "fitness" forum. Durianrider knows it is there. He has posted to it. He posts his fruitboy screeds to the other forums for a purpose. People got tired of him bragging about eating fifty bananas a day. The easy way and fun way to deal with his trolling is to throw it back in his face with pictures of delicious meaty dishes.

The ironic thing about bringing up the cat thread here is that cats are obligate carnivores...
